2 Dear Maritime Enthusiast, You are welcome to attend Maritime Misgivings, the 13th International Maritime Conference, being organised by the Estonian Shipowners Association, the Estonian Maritime Academy of Tallinn University of Technology and Corpore Conferences at the conference centre of Tallink Spa & Conference Hotel on 29 September Of course, given the broad-ranging nature of all things maritime and concerns related to it, not everything can be covered in one conference. Nevertheless, we will be seeking to analyse the situation today and sharing information from Estonia and abroad. The realisation and further development of the operational programme for maritime policy and its ability to compete in maritime navigation in the European Union continues to be topical in Estonia and is likely to remain so in the near future. Not everything has been lost or gained just yet through the joint efforts of entrepreneurs and the public sector we can get ice-bound shipping moving again. The conference, which also marks World Maritime Day, has become something of a tradition, bringing together entrepreneurs and representatives of the Estonian maritime, transport, public and academic sectors to debate key maritime issues, set targets and come up with solutions that will benefit Estonia s economy and society alike. Presentations at these conferences have been given by prominent EU figures as well as maritime industry leaders, academics and internationally renowned maritime specialists from many countries. This year, too, visiting speakers have an honoured place in our programme. As this is a unique annual event, the conference has also become a meeting place for maritime professionals and aficionados from Estonia and other countries in the region. This year s conference is the 13th in the series. As usual, we will round out the event with a discussion for parliamentary political parties, with each representative given the chance to outline their vision of how the maritime industry should evolve in Estonia. After the conference, all of the participants are welcome to attend a modest reception to share their thoughts and discuss what they have heard.
