9 Background As part of an increased effort to collect revenue owed to the City of Miami, the City is now using Small Claims Court to pursue payment of balances left on closed accounts. Four former utility customers whom the City of Miami has filed against in Small Claims Court have failed to comply with court-ordered judgments to pay the debt. The next step in the court process is to file a Motion for Contempt and ask the Judge to issue a Contempt Citation.
