4 CONDITIONS Subject to the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland Act 1971, and to the Constitution, Rules and By-Laws of the Association the following Regulations shall apply to Woodchopping and Sawing. NOTE: Special Attention is drawn to Regulation 9 which reads: The Council in charge may, in his absolute discretion, disqualify, eliminate, or otherwise deal with any competitor, in any Woodchopping or Sawing event in such circumstances and on such grounds as he may think fit and without assigning any reason therefore. Competitors are requested to fill in full particulars required on the Application to Enter form. Insufficient or misleading information may lead to disqualification. On completion please forward to the Entries Section, Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association, Showgrounds, Gregory Terrace, Bowen Hills QLD This program is subject to alteration. The program will open with Woodchopping classes, the first of which will be in the Woodchopping Arena, on Friday afternoon, 12 August Morning and afternoon sessions will be staged during the week, and the final classes will take place on Saturday afternoon, 20 August In addition to cash prizes, the following specials are offered, viz: CHAMPION AXEMAN OF THE SHOW JUNIOR CHAMPION AXEMAN OF THE SHOW MOST SUCCESSFUL COMPETITOR Champion Queensland Axeman of the Year Saturday 13 August COMPETITORS 1. No Application to Enter Form will be accepted unless accompanied by Entry Fee. PERFORMANCES 2. All competitors must state on the Application to Enter Form, their last win and handicap and a list of their last six performances anywhere, irrespective of Association or State, together with the name of the backmarker and winner. An entry will definitely not be accepted unless the win and the last six performances for each class of event entered are stated on the Application to Enter Form. This applies to all Australian and International competitors. Winners and placings in Championship events should also be stated. Competitors must also advise full details of performances covering period commencing from the closing date of entries to the first day of the Show. In the event of a competitor having no performances during that period, a NIL return must be submitted. 3. A competitor must have competed in a minimum of two (2) handicap events before being eligible to compete in a championship. This requirement does not apply to junior, sawing and tree events. 4. Should a competitor wish to lodge a protest on the results of any heat, semi-final or final of any event he shall personally lodge such protest in writing with The Council Steward or his Deputy within 15 minutes following the official announcement of the placings. The Council Steward or his Deputy shall appoint a committee to deal with the protest without undue delay and make its decision known immediately. 5. Competitors to wear plain white singlets, long white or cream sports trousers (No Shorts Permitted) and white shoes with preference given to steel cap shoes or volleys. Singlets of respective Axemen s Associations to which competitors belong, may also be worn. No advertising of any kind is permitted on Competitors dress, with the exception of singlets provided by Sponsors, which must be approved by the Council Steward and be worn only in that sponsor s events. THIS REGULATION WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. 6. The only persons authorised to be in the area during the rigging of blocks are competitors who are entered to compete in the event, and the axemen appointed as deputies of the event, Stewards and other Officials. 7. No person other than a competitor, wedger, or official, shall enter or be within the ring during the conduct of an event. Assistants in Sawing Events shall not enter the ring before the competitors who act as wedgers are called for such event. 8. Any competitor conducting himself in an unruly manner, contributing to or inciting discontent, or attempting to deceive an official, or infringe any of the Rules or Conditions may be disqualified and/or dealt with as the Council may deem fit. 9. The Council Steward may, in his absolute discretion, disqualify, eliminate, or otherwise deal with any competitor in any Woodchopping or Sawing Event in such circumstances and on such grounds as he may think fit and without assigning any reason therefore. 10. The Association may, prior to or after the closing date of entries, limit the number of competitors in any event. The Council Steward reserves the right to cancel any event without assigning a reason, and in such case a refund of the Entry Fee may be made. 11. Axes and saws MUST NOT be carried among the general public unless covered and every care must be taken. 12. The Exhibitor irrevocably consents to the RNA publishing or reproducing in any manner whatsoever any particulars or information in relation to their exhibits; the publication or reproduction may be in a printed form or visual image through electronic means and/or on the internet. SCRATCHINGS 13. Scratchings must be notified to the Woodchopping Handicapper by 5.00pm on the day prior to the event. Competitors not advising scratchings will be liable to a $50 fine. LOGS 14. The logs will be any variety of timber and any length approved by the Officials. The diameter of all logs will be uniform for each contest. 15. All logs will be drawn for in the presence of a representative of competitors. Every competitor shall cut or saw the block drawn for him and only that block. HANDICAPS 16. Handicapping limit at the discretion of the Officials. 17. Handicap of events for the day will, as far as practicable, be posted on the notice boards each morning prior to commencement. A competitor who wins an event after a posting of handicaps may be rehandicapped. The re-handicapping can apply to the event out of which the re-handicapping arised, where that event is run over a number of days. RESERVES 18. Should there be more than the required number of entries in Events Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4A, 4B, 9, 10, 14, 19, 21, 22, and 23: The required number will be selected by the Council Steward or his Deputy and the remainder will be known as Reserves, any one of whom may be called upon to take the place of any competitor who may be unable to start in his heat. Should any of the Reserves, not actually participate in the event, the entry fee will be refunded in full. EVENTS 19. The contest will be chopped or sawn (according to the number of competitors) in heats as arranged by the Officials, and a final. In the event of a competitor scratching from a heat after same has been printed or made public, he shall not be permitted to compete in another heat of the same event. 20. No competitor will be permitted to compete in any heat, or semi-final other than the event in which he was originally placed only under exceptional circumstances, to be approved by the Council Steward or his Deputy. 21. Competitors must be at their starting places ten minutes prior to the advertised time of starting, or the heat in which they are to compete may be started without them. 4

5 22. All competitors starting in an event must continue to chop or saw until the first three logs have been severed. Any competitor failing to comply with this Rule may be disqualified from competing in any further events of the Show unless the Officials are satisfied that such competitor is physically exhausted, or has broken or damaged his axe or saw or is excused for other sufficient reason. 23. At the completion of each contest the competitors must remain at their logs until placed by the Judges whose decision will be final. 24. The first and second competitors in each heat shall compete in the semi-final and/or final. 25. All events will be run under Queensland Axemen s Association Rules except Australian Titles which will be run under Australian Axemen s Association Rules. OFFICIALS 26. No person other than competitors and Officials will be allowed in the Ring during any contest. 27. No official is authorised to assist a competitor by giving advice. TWO MAN RELAY CONTESTS 400mm 28. One member of each team shall cut his log approximately half way through. With this completed, the member must move away to the neutral area as defined by the Council Steward or his deputy. GOODS AND SERVICES TAX The RNA s ABN is ENTRY FORMS Exhibitors must complete STATEMENT BY EXHIBITOR section on the front page of the entry form advising their taxation status. ACCEPTANCE OF ENTRIES The attention of intending Exhibitors is drawn to the fact that entries are accepted subject to the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland Act 1971, and to the Constitution, Rules and By-Laws of the Association, in addition to the Special Regulations which appear in this Schedule. PRIZE MONEY Prize Money stated in the Schedule excludes GST. GST will be added to the Prize Money for Exhibitors who are registered for GST purposes. The Association will provide a Recipient Created Tax Invoice to Exhibitors who are registered for GST purposes. His partner will then commence to cut the opposite side of the log but must continue cutting until at least three logs have been severed. PRIZE MONEY 29. Prizes will be paid by direct credit into Exhibitor s bank accounts. Copies of the Constitution Rules and By-Laws may be obtained upon application to the Entries Section. MINIMUM AGE 30. The minimum age of competitors in the Woodchopping and Sawing events is twelve years. 31. The RNA reserves the right to change, amend, delete any event on the program. STEWARDS OFFICE The Stewards Office will be open from 8.30am Friday 12 August 2011, and competitors are requested to report personally as early as possible before the program commences. PRACTICE AREA A practice area has been allocated adjacent to the Block Shed for the benefit of competitors to edge their axes in the type of timber used in the events. Any competitor requiring an unused block must obtain permission from the Block Steward or his Deputy, for cutting in the designated area. PRIVACY STATEMENT Assurance is given that the privacy of your personal information is of the utmost importance to us. The information provided by you in any application for membership or application to enter is used by the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland (RNA) to offer member services or to organise and conduct competitions at the Royal Queensland Show. By applying for membership or entering such competitions you consent to provide such details as your name, address and exhibit details. Competition information may be made available to the media and included in RNA publications. Your information will not be disclosed without your consent for any other purpose unless required by the law. You may request access to your information and request that our records of that information be corrected by contacting our Privacy Officer (07) or by writing to the RNA, Locked Bag 1010, ALBION QLD

Points will be allocated in finals on the basis of: FINALS THE QUEENSLAND AXEMENS ASSOCIATION INC MOST SUCCESSFUL COMPETITOR Association Sash, Trophy Trophy sponsored by The Queensland Axemens Association Inc The Queensland Axemens Association has contributed a Trophy to the Most Successful Competitor in Classes 4A-8, 13A-18, and 35 for Single Handed Handicap Events. The winner of the prize shall be ascertained by the allocation of points in the following manner: FINALS First Second Third Fourth 5 points 3 points 1 point In the event of a tie by two or more competitors, the Sash shall be awarded to the axeman gaining the greatest number of points in Semi-Finals and Finals. In the event of a tie in this manner, points will be allocated in Heats, Semi-Finals and Finals. IN HEATS and SEMI-FINALS First Second 1 point First Second Third Fourth 5 points 3 points 1 point Should there still be no decision, the winner may be decided by a cut-off, or at the discretion of the Council Steward or his Deputy. Logs will be placed on cradles for the Underhand cut and on dummies for the Standing cut. The first axeman shall cut the Underhand block, and immediately the block is severed his partner shall complete the Standing Block.
