1 Ohio Horseman s Council General Membership State Meeting OHC State meeting held at the Delaware Eagles Club, Delaware, Ohio, 6 March President Tom Green called the meeting to order at 10:40AM all 4 officers present plus 132 persons signed in making the grand total of 136 persons in attendance. Representatives from 50 county chapters were acknowledged during roll call. 15 counties were not represented. Our Country was honored with the Pledge of Allegiance. President Tom Green introduced the new officers: Linda Waites, Vice President; Bonnie Braden, Secretary; and Sheila Craft, Treasurer. Special Mention Thanks to the Northeast Region for putting the meeting and organizing the lunch and fundraiser. The November 13 th, 2011 meeting will be hosted by the Northwest Region. Rick Patterson is in charge of the 40 th year OHC Anniversary Celebration. Warren County always has the founders day ride and celebration and we look forward to a great year Roll Call; Secretary Bonnie Braden gave the county roll call by regions beginning with the Central Region. Tom Green made special recognition to the newest counties, Fayette, Gallia, Miegs, and Jackson. SECRETARY Bonnie Braden stood, a motion to approve the minutes without the reading was made by Rick Patterson, 2 nd by Kris Green, motion carried. VICE PRESIDENT Linda Waites explained the Trail survey included in the packet was to gather information to be presented to the public, What to Expect on Ohio Trails at the 2011 Equine Affair. TREASURER Sheila Craft reported a positive Balance of $25, in restricted funds. The budget for January also reported a positive balance. OLD BUSINESS

2 No report COMMITTEE REPORTS 1. ALL AMERICAN YOUTH SHOW; A chairperson is needed for this event. The packet contains information about the requirement for the youth show. Contact President Tom Green. 2. BUCKEYE TRAIL; JoEllen Reikowski NO REPORT 3. BYLAWS; Jack Weese: Caroline Johnson has joined his committee and he still needs one more person to volunteer. 4. COMMUNICATIONS; Judy Preston: New and upcoming changes to the website, any and all information and pictures welcome. Caroline Johnson recognized for the work on Facebook. We have no friends on Facebook but please like us. Roger Muscarrello is doing the website improvement. 5. CORRAL LIAISON Dawn Jordan suggest pictures be no more than 3 per county and also be at least 50kb but not huge. Keep the article on point. The guidelines for the Corral articles are on the state website. We will have a cost increase on the Corral magazine for the 2012 year. 6. EQUINE AFFAIR; Linda Weese thanked everyone for their support and is on track for the 2011 show. Please sign up for the help at the show and also support Linda Waites, Terry Baker, and JoEllen Reikowski for their presentation on Friday April 8 th at 5PM in the Voinovich Building Seminar Stage. Heather Craft is gathering the Chapter Books for display. If you volunteer, be sure to sign up with Gussie Anderson or Carol Griffin in the Voinovich building upon arrival. Please no membership forms in the books. Reuss Griffith created the ad for the Equine Affair publications and the Corral magazine. Gary Boggs needs pictures of the county youth for the Youth awards and 25 cents will be charged per vote. The contest winner will receive $ for 12 and older, $25.00 for 11 and under. 7. FINANCE; Joyce Wilson We had many accomplishments and were matched to the penny with the Treasurer cash report. The finance report will be mailed to any member wanting a copy. Thanks to the committee which is Pam Hamlin, Sheila Craft, Linda Waites, and Jackie Romaker. This committee allows for the balance and checks of our money. 8. GRIEVANCE; Cindy Barnett NO REPORT 9. GROOM AND CLEAN; Shelia Bushong NO REPORT 10. INSURANCE; Jackie Romaker The insurance cards are on the website and published in the Ohio Horseman s News Publication. Please, each chapter make copies for your members. Request $ for the purchase of a neat machine scanner for insurance forms and receipts to be scanned. Joyce Wilson (Finance) says money is available. 3 11. NEWSLETTER; Jackie Romaker, Welcomes any stories or history of the OHC or other information you would like published. 12. LEGISLATIVE; Reuss Griffith and Mike Gerard Work in tandem with the Equine Coalition Standards of Care. Mr. Miracle is working on finding places for unwanted horses and the key ingredient to an unwanted animal situation is to properly take ownership of the animal it will save court cast and legal intervention. They are working close with the Equine Coalition to keep the HSUS from intervening with the process Ohio has started. Donate to your local humane Society. You can see your money at work. The Hauling bill introduced for legislation deals only with professional haulers, not persons hauling your own livestock. Neil Shaw questions the load limits concerning this bill. 13. MEMBERSHIP; Pam Hamlin; information in packet and she needs the hard copy of the pink form for her file on county information. Membership is down over 1000 people from MERCHANDISING; Cheryl Zielinski thanked Linda Waites for the new item, the license plate bracket/cover. Cost for today is $5.00 and after today because of shipping will be $6.00. We have nice merchandise available at competitive prices for a one time set up fee. The more you buy the cheaper the cost. WE ZEALOUSLY PROTECT OUR LOGO. Please, if you use the OHC Logo be cautious about diluting it. Turn around on orders is usually about 2 weeks. 15. MERIT AWARDS; Kris Green, Barb Gerard; The Gibby Award is in August, the other award nominations need to be in by September. All criteria and information about awards is on the website. 16. NOMINATING; Jim Corman; NO REPORT 17. OHIO TO ERIE; NO REPORT 18. PUBLIC RELATIONS; needs a chairperson 19. STATE TRAIL RIDES; Jack Weese: We are gonna have some rides this year! Special mention and thanks to Gussie Anderson for past service. Cindy Barnett, author of the standing rules for the state rides voted on in Those having grandfathered rides must abide by those rules and apply for the dates every year. The requested information is due by the November meeting. Bill Craft, Morrow County: If the required paper work is not submitted by the November deadline the club forfeits the ride for the following year. Steve Liken asked about lottery possibilities and was given the recent information about STATE RIDES posted on the website by Jack Weese. 20. TRAIL MILEAGE AND HOURS; Beth Bardash; There were only 48 counties out of 65 reporting this year. Please identify yourself and which county you are reporting for when submitting paper work. Montgomery County was the top reporter with 43,219 miles reported as ridden. Cuyahoga was 2 nd, Washington 3 rd, Lorrain 4 th place. Top rider for miles is Linda Donat, 4,504miles. 2 nd was Bill Pugh from Guernsey County reporting 2,852 miles. 3 rd was Wendy Metzler

4 from Montgomery County. Top youth reporting for 12 and up was Matt Bichard, Coshocton County. a. Saddle Pad Drawing; Tom Green picked number 1229, belonging to Gayle Thomas of Columbiana County. Congratulations this will be posted on the website. 21. WEBSITE; Judy Preston; Roger Muscarello is the development person, Caroline Johnson is the website assistant. Please, if you submit things to be posted on the website or facebook, we need detailed information, WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, AND HOW. We are also looking forward to providing fillable forms and paying online for merchandise, membership and insurance. 22. YOUTH AWARDS BETH BARDASH ANNOUNCED BIG congratulations to Coshocton County Chapter for the winning youth year! Matthew Bichard won the youth $ youth award for 12 and older and Alex Watson won the 11 and under $50.00 youth award. It pays to have these youth keep track of their hours and fun saddle miles! DIRECTORS Rick Patterson will be in charge of the founders 40 th year celebration. Perhaps we will do a winding trail from 1972 to 2012 at the Equine Affair. Each county will get a certificate validating the date the chapter was formed. Buster Neeley ; The Harry Hughes Ground in Northwest Ohio, in Fulton County on the 21 st of May will host the American Competitive Trail Ride. ACTHA is a simple competition of riders. is the web page for more information about the Harry Hughes Arena. New officers; President Tom Green encourages all new officers and new counties to follow the bylaws and standing rules for governing you chapters. You will, as new officers be tested on your knowledge of procedure. Please do it correctly. REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVES Northeast Region ; JoEllen Riekowski; The 50/50 drawing went to Gerald Payton from Morrow county. Gerald Payton donated to the OHC Youth Program. Penny Passalacqua ; The Northeast Region formed Brecksville Stables Inc. a 501c3 not for profit organization. There is stabling and a bed and breakfast available for clinics, or hosting any type of horse related activity. Central Region; Oleda Hirsch and Terry Baker; are new regional representatives and invite drivers, walkers, and everyone to their poker run, contact them for information. Northwest Region; Jackie Romaker; Come visit us in the Northwest!

5 Southeast Region; Gary Boggs, Hal Harper, Manager of Salt Fork State Park asked if the OHC could help get funding for tracks for 783 Bobcat f873 tire ingersol, 12/16 and ½ that would be used to clear brush and multi-floral rose from the state parks, Salt Fork, Wolf Run, and Barkcamp. Belmont County President Jim Bolon states the focus of the Gibby work week will be the Blue Trail at Barkcamp which is overgrown with multi-floral rose. These tracks would cost $2, Rick Patterson motioned the state will have nothing to do with this. Linda Patterson 2 nd, motion carried. Request denied. Southwest Region; Don Tindle announced the new chapter of Fayette County and only one more county to complete his region. Wayne Miracle would like to see the grants be reinstated to help out the regions. MOTIONS AND RESOLUTIONS ADOPTED: INSURANCE AND NEWS PUBLICATIONS Jackie Romaker requested $ for a Neat Machine quick scanner. Mike Gerard motion for $ for the purchase of a neat machine quick scanner, Cindy Barnett 2 nd, motion carried. SOUTHEAST REGION Gary Boggs reported on the meeting with Hal Harper, Ohio State Parks, manager. Request was made for support from the State OHC for the pursuance and purchase of bobcat tracks in the amount of $2, Rick Patterson motioned the state will have nothing to do with this. Linda Patterson 2 nd motion carried. Request denied. LAWRENCE COUNTY; WAYNE NATIONAL FOREST et al Mike Shannon, President of Lawrence County asked for assistance with a resolution to form a coalition against no fees for the use of the Wayne National Forest horse trails. A meeting on the 18 th of March, 2011 will be a the Nelsonville Headquarters of Wayne National Forest. Mike Gerard motion that a resolution supporting the coalition against trail fees be adopted. Reuss Griffith 2 nd motion carried. Resolution adopted. Petition for this is posted on the Ohio Horseman s Council website.
