4 Human Hazards and Workplace Violence Ø According to the Bureau of Justice, in 2009, there were 572,000 reports of nonfatal crimes committed against adults at work. Ø In 2010, gun violence resulted in 78% of the workplace homicides. Ø In 2010, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration estimated that roughly 2 million workers a year are affected by some form of workplace violence Ø The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that homicide was the leading cause of death for women at work, accounting for 42% of on-the-job fatalities.

6 EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM Risk Assessment and Planning Security Vulnerability Assessment (SVA), Hazard Vulnerability Assessment (HVA) An Emergency Preparedness Program (EPP) begins in the planning and mitigation phase. A risk assessment and a Business Impact Analysis (BIA) shall develop information and preparation for prevention, mitigation, response and recovery strategies to all hazards.
7 EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM Development of Policies and Procedures 1. Corporate Level 2. Site Specific Iden&fying those ac&ons that may mi&gate the impact of a cri&cal incident and should be undertaken in the planning stage. This will include the development of policies and procedures that will be used to both prevent and respond to cri&cal incidents.
8 EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM Communication Plan Development of the Incident Command System (ICS) Development and/or enhancement of the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) Plans should be developed in advance on how to best use the available modes through a clear and concise communica&on of policies and plans. The networks iden&fied within the jurisdic&on will determine the procedures and processes for transferring informa&on internally and externally and also enhance communica&on among response partners through the use of common terminology.
9 EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM Training and Testing 1. Staff Education at all levels 2. Implementation of the Policies and Procedures identified by the HVA 3. Testing Emergency Plans using tabletop exercises Each facility shall implement an educa&onal program in emergency management. The educa&onal program shall include an overview of the components of the emergency management program and concepts. The facility shall test its Emergency Opera&on Plans at least twice annually, either through func&onal or full-scale exercises.
