The bill would eliminate federal protections that shield gun buyers from unnecessary delays when background checks cannot be completed within 72 hours and FFL s are allowed to proceed with the transfer. Currently federal law provides gun buyers with a safety valve that permits dealers the ability to transfer a firearm after 72 hours regardless of whether the background check has been completed. This provision was written into the regulations so that agencies or a specific person in an agency with anti gun sentiments may not delay indefinitely allowing the transfer to proceed for their own political purposes. The bill was amended in committee to permit delays as long as 10 business days to complete the background check and could be as long as 15 days including holidays and weekends. It also would correct gross errors in last years background check bill SB941 that required background checks for nail and emergency flare guns in addition to all firearms transfers. Ignoring the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act Sandy Hook survivors and relatives are again attempting to sue a gun manufacturer for the massacre gun makers have absolutely no control over. Leading the action is rabid anti gun Senator Richard Blumenthal (D) Connecticut. They cite a so called exemption with the legal terminology of negligent entrustment. Their attorney Joshua Koskoff calls the American voter notoriously incompetent and unfit to be entrusted with firearms already in common use. Other attorneys are arguing that the bushmaster AR-15 is a battlefield weapon and that such a powerful weapon is not suitable for civilians as they are not trained in its use. Its also claimed that it is not suitable for home defense despite the fact that 75% of buyers uses it for that purpose. Another claim is that the Bushmaster is not suitable for recreational purposes ignoring the fact that 90% use it for exactly that reason. As we know the AR was not developed for the military it was made specifically for the civilian market. Following their corrupt logic the Remington 700, Beretta M-9 and Glock 17 that have been adopted from civilian to military and police use and are in common use across the nation for civilian purposes are not included in their in their diatribe.. Ignoring two legitimate battlefield rifles, the M-1 Garand and M-1 Carbine, that are lawfully used hundreds of thousands or millions of times annually the gaps in their familiarity and knowledge of firearms in general reveals the blatant political bent of their continued attacks on lawful industry. There still remains surface material to be provided for the last bay before the Wickline 600 yd side berm. It has been discovered that the PRS berm bales have a tendency to deteriorate more rapidly in exposure to direct sunlight and UV rays so it has been proposed that protective long lasting tarps be used to prevent accelerated decay and they will extend bale life significantly. The relatively inexpensive cost of the tarps and the bales far out weighs the cost of earthen berms and their perennial maintenance. ****************** Dan Gettling will be contacting members to man the various positions at the gun show in April. The quantity sold out the first day. A limited number (35) were available at their stores in Anniston, AL and Port Clinton, OH on a first come first served basis. Two grades were offered: field grade $625 and service grade $685. They will be shipped without magazines, slings or oilers. The CMP website must be accessed to obtain instructions and application forms. There will be no phone orders or order status checks. A big thank you to Snake Oil Willy and Mad River Mongo for setting up two wonderful stages for some awesome Wild Bunch blastin'. Everyone had a great time and what a wonderful day for it. We need someone in charge of setting up the gun check station at the front door. This person should be well versed in the gun check procedure and pass on this procedure to the next relief person. A sand/bullet trap of some sort should be available at the check station. Tie wraps should be available at this location. This person should be responsible for the pick up and storage of these items. 2. We need someone in charge of setting up the entry tables, tablecloths, cash box and check in information. 3. It is suggested that the cowboys will be door guards in full dress. 4. We need one individual to be in charge of sandwich signs and banners. 5. MIXED BAG Justice Antonin Scalia s death is resulting in political wrangling by both parties over his replacement. Whichever party wins will have decades long lasting effects on the constitution and our interests specifically. ************************ There are four states that are attempting to require liability insurance if you want to exercise your second amendment rights to keep and bear arms. Hawaii, New Hampshire, New York and Los Angeles county in California are attempting to make liability insurance mandatory for gun ownership with Los Angeles ignoring the state preemption statute. ************************* Over a year has passed since the big squabble over M855 ammo and there hasn t been any indication that police are being more frequently targeted or the public safety affected in any way by the availability of this kind of ammo. **************************** More insanity in Kalifornia: another bill in the state legislature would require all gun transactions be videotaped! This is the same kind of harassment that San Francisco used to shut down the last gun store in the city. ************************* This months American hunter magazine has a good article from the U.S. Department of State on going to Mexico or Canada and making absolutely sure you do not have any forgotten firearms or stray ammo with you. Consequences can be severe especially in Mexico ********************************* In Lexington Mass. some members at a town meeting want to draw on their heritage as the place where the revolutionary war started when General Gage attempted to disarm the colonists and start another revolution to ban assault weapons. NRA sent the sign to us for recognition of the grants we have received for range improvements. The sign has been posted on the kiosk in front of the restrooms by the 200yd range. There are 5 additional bays plus one large unfinished bay on the end of the old 50 yd bay. The grand idea is to punch out the end berm and make it into a long three gun range. 4
