It s about ordinary people coming together to provide for themselves and one another. It s about overcoming the insurmountable through innovation and dogged perseverance. It is about rural and urban. And it is about building wealth and building community. Credit unions are writing our story every day. This year s Government Relations Forum and Hike the Hill is part of that. Over the next two days, credit union leaders will stand together to advance our perspectives and those of our members, particularly as part of the federal financial institutions legislative review. Credit union leaders, directors and CU Nation advocates will gather to: Gain insights from party insiders and policy speakers Receive training to be a stronger advocate for your credit union and members Hike the Hill with fellow advocates to brief Members of Parliament on important issues for your credit union Dine in the historic Parliamentary Dining Room

3 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS MICHAEL S. EDWARDS Michael is the Vice President for Advocacy and General Counsel of World Council of Credit Unions. He directs World Council s Advocacy Department in Washington, DC and represents the global credit union movement before international standard setting bodies such as the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, the Financial Action Task Force, and the International Accounting Standards Board. He holds a Juris Doctor from American University-Washington College of Law, a Master of Arts in International Affairs from American University-School of International Service, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining World Council, Michael was Senior Assistant General Counsel in the Regulatory Advocacy Department of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). IHOR KORBABICZ Ihor is a Senior Researcher & Head of Operations at Abacus Data, overseeing the design and execution of research products that deliver high impact strategic advice to clients across sectors. His near decade of experience in public affairs includes work with some of Canada s top polling and strategic communications agencies, designing research exercises that served as the foundation for effective strategies in political campaigns, re-branding efforts, reputation management, product reformulation, and advertising testing for some of Canada s leading corporations, associations and political parties. He holds a Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management and a Master s Degree in Political Management from Carleton University NATIONAL CREDIT UNION GOVERNMENT RELATIONS FORUM 3

With the federal financial institutions legislative review underway, we re positioned to make a forceful case for a regulatory environment that is adaptive and enabling of credit unions including new federal credit unions to be the one real source of consumer-focused competition in the financial services market. 12:45 p.m. 1:45 p.m. GLOBAL POLICY PERSPECTIVE The International Deregulatory Agenda: Prospects for Credit Union Regulatory Relief Speaker: Michael Edwards, VP for Advocacy and General Counsel, World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) An increasing number of credit union regulatory burdens come from international standards, but electoral results in G20 countries such as Canada, France, Germany, the UK, and the USA, as well as Brexit have placed regulatory relief for credit unions on the horizon. Spaces in these meetings are limited and are assigned based on your credit union s business area or subject expertise. CCUA will notify you of your meeting assignments at the Breakfast Briefing on Tuesday morning. 7:30 a.m. Breakfast Briefing and Itinerary Pick-Up Ballroom A, Delta Ottawa City Centre This is a must-attend briefing for all advocates participating in Hike the Hill. CCUA staff will provide you with last minute instructions and assignment changes. A hot breakfast will be available.
