1 The Week Ahead April 2016 Committee meetings, Brussels Turkey visa liberalisation. The European Commission report on Turkey s progress towards meeting EU visa liberalisation requirements will be debated by the Civil Liberties Committee. Parliament would need to agree with the Council to exempt Turkish nationals from EU visa requirements. (Thursday) Missing migrant children. More than 10,000 unaccompanied refugee and migrant children may have disappeared in Europe, according to Europol. Civil Liberties Committee MEPs will discuss this with representatives of Europol, the Fundamental Rights Agency and the "Missing children Europe" NGO. (Thursday) Foreign fighters. Eurojust s report on the phenomenon of foreign fighters (Report on the Phenomenon and the Criminal Justice Response) will be debated by the Civil Liberties Committee with Eurojust President Michèle Coninsx. (Wednesday) Gun control. Draft amendments to the proposed reform of the EU firearms directive, to prevent weapons falling into the hands of terrorists and keep track of cross-border arms transfers, will be presented and debated for the first time in the Internal Market Committee. (Wednesday) Car emissions. Parliament's Inquiry Committee on Emission Measurements in the Automotive Sector (EMIS) will host a hearing with the Joint Research Centre and the International Council of Clean Transportation. The proposed overhaul of EU rules on car manufacturers' compliance with all safety, environmental and production regulations will be debated for the first time in the Internal Market Committee. (Tuesday and Thursday) Energy price transparency. Ways to address the causes of energy poverty and measures to establish an energy market that does more to empower consumers, including new business models, fewer administrative barriers, price comparison tools and clearer bills, are set out in a resolution to be voted in the Industry and Energy Committee. This work will feed into upcoming legislative proposals for the future Energy Union. (Thursday) Plant health. An informal agreement with the Council Presidency on rules aimed at curbing the influx of pests (e.g. Xylella fastidiosa) into the EU, prevent them from spreading and eradicate the most dangerous ones will be up for a vote in the Agriculture Committee. (Thursday) President's agenda. EP President Martin Schulz will meet Pan-African Parliament President Roger Nkodo Dang on Tuesday and Canadian federal Minister of International Trade, Chrystia Freeland on Wednesday. On Thursday, Mr Schulz will meet Indonesia s President Joko Widodo and Mozambique s President Filipe Nyusi. Press briefing.
