5 THE TIYYA FOUNDATION PROVIDING COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES OF REFUGEES LOW INCOME IMMIGRANTS AND DISPLACED AMERICANS HISTORY Tiyya was co founded by Owliya Dima and her daughter Meymuna Hussein Cattan who are refugees from Ethiopia Meymuna was born in an Ethiopian refugee camp in Somalia Her father was resettled in Southern California in 1983 In 1984 the family reunited Since then they have made an enormous impact on supporting and raising awareness about multicultural refugee communities in Orange County Prior to founding Tiyya Owliya volunteered in assisting newcomers with the challenging process of resettlement for over a decade In 2010 her volunteer efforts shifted into Tiyya Meymuna s thesis project in grad school creating a powerful organization that has provided assistance and special accommodation to diverse families and individuals ( ' ) MISSION STATEMENT Tiyya s mission is to provide community support for families of refugees low income immigrants and displaced Americans Through our work we create a community that fosters the development of self sufficiency ultimately helping our program participants overcome obstacles and actively participate in society ' www tiyya org 505 N Tustin Ave Suite 280 Santa Ana CA

6 According to research by the UCLA Labor Center immigrants make up onethird of Orange County s population with including Somalis Arabs Afghans Mexicans Iranians and more Emerging communities tend to be lower income and face educational attainment challenges and language isolation To help fill the gaps in the community Tiyya has designed efficient programming to help adults find employment youth feel welcomed and allow the general public to get involved! Since establishing Tiyya in 2010 we have helped close to 4000 program participants TIYYA'S SOLUTION AND SERVICES YOUTH ALL STAR PROGRAM [Soccer Tutoring Arts and Recreation] The Refugee Youth All STAR Program provides weekly opportunities for youth grades K12 to establish a social network and life skills within a positive healthy environment LEAD PROGRAM [Leadership Education Advancement and Personal Development] With the support of Friends of Tiyya this program is designed for families of refugees immigrants and displaced Americans Program participants receive individualized mentorship workforce training and opportunities for personal development FRIENDS OF TIYYA PROGRAM Each year hundreds of local community members are provided the tools to make a difference by donating their time money and professional services at Tiyya Members are identified through social media community presentations events various collaborations and Tiyya's monthly Introduction Mixers This is a great opportunity for those who want to learn about the current refugee crisis and other displaced communities while giving back in a meaningful way wwwtiyyaorg 505 N Tustin Ave Suite 280 Santa Ana CA
