Gump, Jr., Dallas Demonstration #1 In preparation for a surge in hiring, Bobby Baker, Director of Human Resources for Project Management, Inc., a national construction project management firm, is conducting an internal I-9 audit and uses the opportunity to train a new HR Generalist. During the audit, Bobby notices that a couple of previously completed I-9s have missing information. The HR Generalist has too many questions and is slowing Bobby s progress on the audit. Since Bobby personally completed two of the deficient I-9 forms, Bobby fills in the missing information during the audit. Will Bobby complete the audit and train the HR Generalist quickly enough to be ready for the new hires they expect as a result of the job fair they held at the convention center? 9:00 Worksite Enforcement 2009 Nuts and Bolts Workshop on I-9s and Internal Audits 1 hr Richard A. Gump, Jr., Dallas Demonstration #2 Ryan Redding, Human Resource Generalist with Project Management, Inc., has 40 no-match letters from the Social Security Administration sitting on her desk. Ryan s supervisor, Bobby Baker, is in the middle of an internal I-9 audit and has not received Ryan s messages asking for guidance. Ryan is pretty sure SSA is telling her she has to fire 40 employees, but she decides to meet with Project Management s immigration counsel before handing out any pink slips. 10:00 Worksite Enforcement 2009 Constructive Knowledge and Social Security No-Match Letters.75 hr (.5 ethics) Brent Turner Huddleston, Dallas 10:45 Break Kevin Robert Lashus, Austin 11:00 Worksite Enforcement 2009 Development of a Workable Corporate Compliance Program 1 hr (.5 ethics) Richard A. Director of Advocacy American Immigration Lawyers Association 1:05 Break 1:15 Pros and Cons of E-Verify: Who Should and Who Must Consider It.75 hrs (.5 ethics) Page Bachman, Tulsa, OK Corporate Vice President, Administration, St. John Health System Demonstration #3 Bobby is very worried about the 89 employees arrested at Project Management, Inc., but what he can t believe is the amount of documentation taken by ICE yesterday! The warrant they left behind lists I-9s, payroll documents, and copies of identification documents for all employees ever hired by Project Management, Inc., not to mention vehicle titles, employment applications, immigration documents, scanners and printers. And why did they take their biometrics scanner used for making employee I.D. badges? What is even more incredible was that Sheriff Jamie Joel, whom Bobby has known forever since the sheriff lives down the street, personally assisted in the raid. There must have been at least 30 law enforcement vehicles in their parking lot! Bobby and company president, Page Parker, head straight to the offices of Arnt Wie Goode, LLP, the company s law firm, to speak with partners Amy Arnt and Wendy Wie. Hopefully, they won t need to see, Gary Goode, their criminal law specialist. 2:00 Can State and Local Governments Fix the Problem? 1 hr Gary E. Endelman, BP America Legal Group Cynthia Juarez Lange, Santa Clara, CA Fragomen Del Rey Bernsen & Loewy 3

Did they really know their employees were unauthorized to work? How could they? The thought of going to trial and facing years in prison seems insane, so they visit with Arnt Wie Goode, LLP to weigh their options. 10:00 ICE Raids: Criminal Liability and Charges (Case Study of Shipley Do-Nuts) 1 hr Lawrence D. Finder, Haynes and Boone 11:00 Break Edward F. Gallagher, III, Ryan D. McConnell, Demonstration #5 Knowing the company can no longer help the arrested employees, Ryan Redding refers family members of the detained employees to local immigration practitioners to help them with their deportation cases. Can the employees get a fair hearing in court after the company s negotiations? Because this was bigger than each individual client, local immigration attorneys come together to discuss possible strategies in defending detained immigrants. 11:15 The Endangered Employee: Removal Hearing Crash Course Jodilyn M. Goodwin, Harlingen Law Office of Jodi Goodwin Richard S. Fischer, Nacogdoches The Law Offices of Richard S. Fischer Felipe D.J. Millan, El Paso Law Office of Felipe D.J. Gallagher, III, 3:30 Break Demonstration #6 After finally bonding out of detention, employee Dolores Daily prepares for her court hearing where the immigration judge will decide on her application to adjust her status to permanent residence. She knows she is not a bad person, but wonders what the judge will think of those terrible things the ICE agents accused her of doing. She is not a thief. Dolores used the card she bought at the flea market to work and pay for her children s education. 3:45 Options NOT to Overlook in Business & Family Immigration Plus Last Resorts Nancy Taylor Shivers, San Antonio Shivers & Shivers 4:45 Adjourn MCLE CREDIT HOURS (2.5 ETHICS) MCLE COURSE NO: Applies to the College of the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Immigration and Nationality Law. 4
