3 Program Agenda Thursday, April 14, 2016, 8:55a 4:15p 8:55 Welcome and Introductions 9:00 Use of Technology to Stalk Research indicates that millions of adults are stalked each year, yet stalking is a crime that is often misunderstood, minimized or missed entirely. This session focuses on the crime of stalking and how advances in technology are used by stalkers to track, monitor and gain information about victims. The presenter also discusses the strong links between stalking and other crimes such as sexual assault and intimate partner violence. 11:00 Break 11:15 Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners and Rape Kits Corinne Olson What is a SANE? What do they do? How can they help your case? Practical aspects of using a SANE for your next protective order case. 12:15p Lunch Break 1:00 Evidentiary Issues and Considerations It is crucial that the constantly changing technology used by perpetrators of domestic violence, stalking and sexual abuse is effectively explained to the fact finder at trial. In this interactive workshop, the presenter assists participants in identifying situations in which technical expert witnesses may be needed, and works with the group to identify people who may be able to provide these services at low or no cost. Practical tips and considerations for helping victims preserve technology based evidence are also discussed. 2:00 Technology Safety Planning In this digital age, safety planning with survivors must include a look at technology. This includes technology that the abuser might be misusing to monitor, harass, stalk or track the victim as well as technology that the survivor and any children use on a regular basis. This session walks through safety planning strategies for survivors in a variety of different scenarios. 3:00 Break 3:15 Revenge Porn North Carolina s New Law and Resources to Assist Survivors Amily K. McCool Technology gives abusers the ability to easily obtain, threaten to and actually make good on promises to distribute explicit images of survivors obtained during the course of an intimate relationship. What is commonly known as Revenge Porn is not about revenge, but one more tactic of power and control abusers use to trap and torment victims of domestic violence. This workshop educates participants about the conduct and harms of revenge porn and some available legal and non-legal resources attorneys can utilize to assist survivors. 4:15 Adjourn
