2 Dear Sponsor, is busy preparing for the Green Card Youth Voices Immigrant Author Summit: Working Across Cultures. This event is a three-day gathering of focused and interactive networking and leadership development for 90 immigrant and refugee high schools students all co-authors of the Green Card Youth Voices books originating from 33 countries and now residing in Fargo, St. Paul, and Minneapolis. The summit will include networking time, panels, and workshops in order for youth leaders to connect with one another across cultures and geographies, equip them with skills to be more effective leaders, and inspire them through other prominent immigrant leader voices. It is more important now than ever that we have a powerful youth immigrant cohort able to speak up, advocate for themselves and others, and work across cultures to combat the pervasive negative refugee and immigrant rhetoric. Immigrants who share their stories with GCV feel empowered; these young people are no exception. We want to use this event to give these young people the confidence to take on new leadership roles and to continue to develop lasting relationships with other diverse students. During the Summit, students will have the chance to explore the Race Exhibit at the Science Museum of Minnesota; participate in workshops, network, and hear from immigrant leaders at MN Target Field; participate in a book-building workshop at MN Center for the Book Arts; and hear performances of prominent immigrant writers, poets, and spoken word artists at the Loft Literary Center. Our dynamic video-based platform is designed to empower a variety of educational institutions, community groups and individuals to acquire first-person perspective about immigrants lives, and increase the appreciation of the immigrant experience in America. Our exhibits and other program materials have been shared in numerous schools elementary through college level as well as in library and special exhibits across the country.

3 You can help give a voice to students like Zaynab My name is Zaynab Abdi, and I am from Yemen. After the revolution happened in Yemen, I moved to Egypt where I lived with my sister for two years. I immigrated to the United States in Since moving here, I have graduated as valedictorian from Wellstone International High School in Minneapolis, and now attend St. Catherine s University. I am studying Political Science and International Relations. I want to become a lawyer! The first time I interacted with Green Card Voices was in 2015 when I recorded my story. Tea and I sat in the studio and she asked me questions about my life. She was such a nice person and made me feel so comfortable! That was the first time I knew that my voice was important. Since then, Tea and Green Card Voices has helped me continue to see how my story is my biggest asset. I have spoken at many events: Minnesota Twins Diversity Day, University of Minnesota, and many others. I even was invited by Malala to speak at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2016!
