2 The Event Breaking bread together is a way to remove barriers, explore new cultures, and build stronger relationships. The Alliance for Multicultural Community Services (The Alliance) will host its second annual international food and culture celebration on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 6:30 to 9:30pm at Kim Son restaurant. United We Dine is an opportunity to celebrate Houston s diversity while highlighting the important work The Alliance does to help refugees and underserved individuals in the community. Food has a unique ability to bring people together, forge bonds and create conversation. It s a centerpiece of holiday festivities. It s how neighbors welcome newcomers into their community. It s how many families share their traditions. Designated food areas will give attendees the opportunity to virtually transport themselves to the countries and regions being depicted through the culinary expertise of the restaurants. Each restaurant will offer a small plate featuring their signature dish while having the opportunity to promote their business to attendees. During the event, patrons will be entertained with live performances from the finest artists representing various cultures from around the globe. We hope that you will join us in our efforts to highlight the extraordinary power of food. Food can forge friendships. Hold families together. Keep communities close. And spark celebrations!

3 The Cause The Alliance for Multicultural Community Services (The Alliance) has transformed the lives of thousands of refugees and other community members for over 30 years. The Alliance s mission is to create opportunities for refugees, immigrants, and underserved residents to achieve their goals for self-sufficiency and improve their quality of life. The Alliance is a leading nonprofit organization for welcoming and empowering those who face financial, educational, health, language or cultural barriers to realizing their dreams. Beyond core refugee settlement, social-educational, and wellness services, The Alliance houses several innovative social enterprises: Alliance Language Network, the Driver s Education and Mobility Center, and The Community Cloth, a microenterprise initiative for artisan refugee women. All increase support for client self-sufficiency and employment opportunities so clients can thrive in our community.
