3 5.2. Employment Labour force estimates indicate that the largest proportion (63.8%) of the employed population was in Abu Dhabi Region. The distribution by status in employment revealed that the majority of employed persons in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi were paid employees (97.9%), while 1.6% were own-account workers. A distribution by educational attainment, indicates that the largest proportion (22.4%) of the employed population had less than primary education, followed by lower secondary education (21.0%). Among citizen's, a bachelor's degree was most common (35.7%). A classi cation by main occupation indicates that Elementary occupations had the largest percentage of the employed population with 26.3%, followed by Professionals with 16.4%. Among employed citizens, Professionals accounted for the largest share, making up 37.1% of this segment, while the largest share (28.6%) of employed non-citizens was in the Elementary occupations. The largest proportion of the employed population was in the 'Activities of households as employers undifferentiated goods and services activity' with 27.6%, followed by Construction activity with 20.5%. 'Public administration and defense'; Compulsory Social security activities accounted for the largest proportion (56.7%) of employed citizens, while 'Activities of households as employers undifferentiated goods and services' activity accounted for the largest proportion (30.0%) of employed non-citizens. As labour force data indicates, the private sector engaged the largest proportion (50.5%) of the employed population, while 12.2% worked for the government sector. As for employed citizen, 74.8% worked in the government sector and 5.5% in the private sector. Labour Force Survey data also showed that the majority of the employed in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi are married (75.6%), while 22.8% of the employed never married. The survey data also showed that 50.4% of the total employed population in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi were working more than 48 hours per week. 208 Statistical Yearbook of Abu Dhabi 2017
