4 Senior Advisory Committee March 8, :30 pm Cedar Fork Community Center DRAFT MEETING MINUTES 1. Call to Order Vice Chairperson Patricia Horton called the meeting to order at 6:31 pm. 2. Attendance Vice Chairperson Patricia Horton Member Linda Lyons (arrived at 6:46) Member Gloria Skeele Member Gwendolyn Warren Member Joyce Daye Member Joy Redd-Skinner Member Clarence Scollon Member Nina Weiland Also present were the following staff members: Ryan Vinson, Cedar Fork Community Center Supervisor (CFCCS) Absent from the meeting: Member Bessie Gray Chairperson Ken Sherman Member Joseph Lofaro 3. Adoption of Agenda Action: Vice Chairperson Patricia Horton made a motion to adopt the agenda. Member Joy Redd-Skinner seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. CFCCS Ryan Vinson had one addition to the agenda, which was the name of the Senior Advisory Committee. 4. Approval of Minutes January 11, 2018 Action: Member Gloria Skeele made a motion to adopt the minutes with the one correction. Member Nina Weiland seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Member Nina Weiland had one correction: her last name was spelled Weiland. 5. Public Comment 4

5 There was no public comment. 6. Old Business a. Survey Results i. CFCCS Ryan Vinson went over the results of the survey that was attacked with the agenda. b. Historic Christian Church Update i. CFCCS Ryan Vinson said that construction is on schedule to start in May and should hopefully be done by August or September. c. MAFC Programs During Renovations i. CFCCS Ryan Vinson said the initial intention is to move what can be moved over to the Historic Christian Church. Based on the schedule at CFCC, we will also see what can be moved to Cedar Fork. d. Senior Seminars i. Senior Scams: March 8 from 11 am 12 pm was cancelled due to insufficient registration. ii. Senior Scams: April 24 from 1 2 pm iii. iv. 7. New Business Why Move When I m Doing Fine?: May 8 from 10 am 12 pm. CFCCS Ryan Vinson clarified that pre-registration was required for the free seminars as the presenter has a minimum number of attendees needed. a. May August Day Trips i. May: Duke Garden, 9 th District Shopping ii. June 9th: Lavender Harvest Celebration iii. August 25: Dinner Detective b. May August Volunteer Opportunities i. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle & Food Bank of Eastern NC. CFCCS Ryan Vinson said there are generally set days/times for volunteers and all we have to do is pick a date. ii. Several committee members asked what would be involved when they volunteered. CFCCS Ryan Vinson said that it would consist of putting together meals for those in need. c. September December Day Trips i. Tobacco Road Tours, Seagrove Pottery, Barn Dinner Theater, Jordan Lake Boat Tour ii. CFCCS Ryan Vinson said that several of these were mentioned on the survey results. 5

Cameron Village Shopping: Cancelled xx. 19 trips offered: 8 were held, 11 were cancelled 9. Committee Comments a. Chairperson Ken Sherman i. CFCCS Ryan Vinson shared information from Chairperson Ken Sherman that the progressive dinner seemed unlikely as the price would be too high. It was also noted about the greenway tour being arranged with PRCR Director Jerry Allen to tour the new greenway. CFCCS Ryan Vinson would work with Chairperson Ken Sherman to set this up. b. Vice Chairperson Pat Horton i. Member Joyce Daye asked about bringing some entertainment to the St. Patrick s Day Luncheon, such as brainteasers, games, etc. and maybe some small prizes for the winners. 10. Upcoming Events a. Action: Vice Chairperson, Pat Horton, made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Member Gloria Skeele seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
