15 National Probate Project Update This project was a big deal 170 Million images All 50 States (with the exception of Virginia) Thanks to all of you and FamilySearch
16 Probate Project Questions and Clarifications What exactly is in the index? Limited to name and basic info on the deceased Indexing was focused on following document types: Will books, case files, and letters of administration. Will more information be coming? Ongoing efforts on indexing additional names and information on all record types is expected to take place in future enhancements What it isn t: An every name index of all people in the records
17 Probate Record Deliveries Deliveries to participating archives are beginning to go out now on a rolling schedule. 2 Format options--j2k, or bi-tonal TIF images. States who participated and are getting back images will be asked their format preference. This will go out as records for the various states are ready.
18 It s Not Over: Ongoing Probates We are working with FamilySearch to keep the Probate Project ongoing. Additional probates from the State or Local level will be imaged by FamilySearch Ancestry will continue to create indexes for additional record sets Contact Ancestry or FamilySearch if you have or know of additional probates that are available for imaging and indexing work
19 Ancestry National Marriage Project Initiative Building on the success of the National Probate Project, Ancestry would like to aggregate available county marriage records Some states only have Marriage records at the county level (many have not been microfilmed or digitized) Many states have not aggregated Marriage records prior to Statewide Vital Record Registration. Many states have these older Marriage records at the State Archive, or a State Historical Society We want your help to preserve and make accessible these valuable family history resources. We invite you contact us with possibilities or questions.
