2 Officer of the month John Stephens Officer Stephens has been with the San Francisco Police Department for 9 years and has worked at Ingleside, Central, and Richmond Stations. Growing up in England, Stephens graduated from The University of South Hampton and made his way to San Francisco for a job opportunity. Prior to joining the SFPD, Stephens worked for PG&E. Stephens is a subject matter expert on vehicle collision investigations and also teaches recruits at the academy. When not at work Stephens enjoys walking his dog on the beach. 2

3 Citizen of the month Cameron Crisman Cameron can be found every Sunday at the Clement St. Farmers Market selling his family farms' goods. A Richmond district local, Cameron still lives in the city half the week and spends the other half the week at the family farm in Mendocino. When not working Cameron enjoys skim boarding, running, and playing basketball. Cameron is also the president of Bay Area Financial Education Foundation with the mission of combating social issues through better early education. 3

6 DEFINITION OF SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY Suspicious activity is any observed behavior that could indicate a crime-related incident has been committed, or about to be committed. Unusual items or situations: A vehicle is parked in an odd location, a package/luggage is left unattended, a window/ door is open that is usually closed, or other out-of-the-ordinary situations occur. Examples of Suspicious Activity: An individual peering into vehicles, to try and locate any valuables left unattended. An individual trying door handles to vehicles, and/or residences to gain access to the vehicle and/or residence. An individual checking front doors of residences to locate any unattended packages, or individuals following delivery trucks to see where the truck is dropping off packages. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING DEFINITIONS OF CRIME Robbery Robbery is the taking of property from another by using force or by using fear. Assault An assault is an unlawful attempt, coupled with the present ability, to commit a violent injury on another person. Battery- (Misdemeanor battery) is any willful and unlawful touching of another. (Felony battery) is the use of force or violence upon the person of another that causes serious bodily in jury. **Assault is when a person swings their arm and battery is when that arm makes contact with another person. ** Aggravated Assault Assault upon another person with a deadly weapon or instrument other than a firearm or by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury. Burglary The intent upon entry into a property to commit grand theft, petty theft, or any felony. 6

7 DEFINITION OF COMMUNITY POLICING Community policing, or community-oriented policing, is a strategy of policing that focuses on police building ties and working closely with members of the communities. Homeless Outreach: Richmond Station Officer s coor dinate with city agencies to provide assistance and offer City services as needed. The Officers handle quality of life issues and find programs for willing individuals. Foot Patrol: Richmond Station has dedicated foot patrols on Clement St., Geary Blvd, Golden Gate Park as well as the Cliff House. Richmond Station Community Meetings: Community Meetings are held once a month for the public and residents of the Richmond District to attend. People can voice their comments or concerns about issues in the Richmond District. 7

9 SAN FRANCISCO POLICE DEPARTMENT INCIDENTS IN THE RICHMOND DISTRICT THIS WEEK Vehicle Burglary (Arrest) 05/22/ Hours El Camino Del Mar/ Legion of Honor Plain Clothes Officers were conducting surveillance on a wanted auto burglary suspect. Officers followed the suspect and placed him under arrest as he exited his vehicle. The suspect was identified as the suspect from an incident near the Legion of Honor and an additional incident in a neighboring District. The suspect was arrested and booked at County Jail One on the following charges: Burglary 2nd Degree, Committing a Similar Offense While Out on Bail. Warrant Arrest, Resisting Arrest (Arrest) 05/25/ Hours Fulton St/ 14th Ave Officers responded to a possible auto burglary in progress. Suspect 1 and suspect 2 were detained by arriving officers. Suspect 1 told officers the vehicle belonged to a friend but he did not have the key to the door, just the key to the ignition. A records check revealed the car was registered to an owner in Santa Rosa. Santa Rosa Police Department advised officers the owner was currently in custody and could not be reached. Suspect 1 gave officers a false name several times. When he was finally positively identified, a records check revealed he had several outstanding felony warrants. As officers placed suspect 1 into the back of the patrol vehicle for transport, suspect 1 resisted. Officers were able to gain compliance from the suspect and fortunately no one sustained injury. A records check of suspect 2 revealed he also had an outstanding warrant. Suspect 1 was arrested and booked at County Jail One on the following charges: 3 Outstanding Felony Warrants, Resisting Arrest Suspect 2 was arrested and booked at County Jail One on the following charges: Outstanding Misdemeanor Warrant 9
