Even though we only have three days this week, it s going to be busy. I could barely fit everything into the calendar. 9 Sixth District Court of Appeals at School of Law on Tuesday, October 21 st The Sixth District Court of Appeals will be on campus hearing oral arguments in the Panelli Moot Court Room in Bergin Hall on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 from 9:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. Students are invited to attend case hearings. This will be a great time to learn how the court functions and to ask questions of the Justices. You ll want to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to see lawyers in action. Students entering and leaving the courtroom will be asked to do so quickly and in a quiet manner. For security purposes, Court Officers will scan all individuals entering the courtroom. Books, backpacks, newspapers, phones, radios, pagers/beepers, cameras, etc. will not be permitted in the court room while court is in session. 9

11 Israel, Palestine and the Rule of Law A Symposium on the Rights and Wrongs of Israel's Occupation of Palestine with Prof. John Dugard and Prof. Norman Finkelstein It's probably the most important judicial ruling regarding peace and justice in the Middle East that you've never heard about. In July 2004, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), known as the World Court, gave a landmark opinion in favor of Palestine on borders, the Wall, settlements, and Jerusalem, which are all final status questions on Israel's occupation of Palestine. Come hear Prof. Finkelstein and Prof. Dugard discuss this landmark opinion to create a just and peaceful resolution of the Israel Palestine conflict. Prof. John Dugard is a professor of international law and has served on the International Court of Justice and until recently was Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel since He is also considered to be the father of human rights law in South Africa.
