2 SBA Board: FROM THE SECRETARY: Greetings, Carlos Rosario President Jessica Montoya & Christian Cornejo Co-Vice Presidents (Full-Time) & I hope that everyone enjoyed fall break and was able to get out of town, relax, or enjoy some local attractions. I spent the weekend in San Francisco and watched the Blue Angels perform at the end of fleet week. There are many exciting opportunities in the Bay Area during the fall season and I encourage everyone to partake in the many law school hosted events and outside community events as possible. Council of Leaders, please mark your calendars for the upcoming COL meeting next Monday, October 18th, from 12-1 pm. Lunch will be provided. SBA will review how the year is going so far and welcomes feedback, questions, and concerns from all club members. Attendance is highly encouraged, as it will help everyone assess the semester and plan for the rest of the school year. Please remember that tomorrow, October 13th is an administrative Monday so follow your Monday class day schedule. Jessica Bacosa Vice President (Part-Time) jbacosa@scu.edu Enjoy the coming fall weather Johanna Jacob Camille Alfaro-Martell Treasurer scu.sba.treasurer@gmail.com Johanna Jacob Secretary scu.sba.grapevine@gmail.com Martin Kopp Online Editor mkopp@scu.edu

A wall calendar will be created using the thirteen photos with the most votes, and these calendars will be on sale before finals, just in time for all your holiday shopping needs Darren Hutchinson American University College of Law Resistance in the Afterlife of Identity The 2008 presidential election gave rise to political rhetoric claiming and praising the purportedly post-racial and post-gender status of the United States. Because Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton captivated the attention and respect of millions of voters, political commentators claimed that race and gender were no longer relevant categories. While conservatives have long denounced race- and gender-conscious policies, liberals have now begun to make such arguments in greater frequency. Professor Darren Hutchinson seeks to debunk the postidentity discourse by: (1) tracing it to historical arguments opposing race consciousness; (2) revealing its racist and sexist dimensions; and (3) making the case for race- and gender-consciousness as tools of progressive political organizing and public policy. Wine and Cheese Reception immediately following the lecture. Co-hosted with the PI&SJ Coalition. This activity has been approved for Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) credit by the State Bar of California in the amount of one hour. Santa Clara University School of Law certifies that this activity conforms to the standards for approved education activities prescribed by the rules and regulations of the State Bar of California governing minimum continuing legal education.
