1 KANSAS SECTION ASABE Executive Board Meeting Minutes July 18, 2011 Manhattan, KS Members Present Troy Kolb, Craig Cowley, Ed Brokesh, Joe Harner, Randy Price, Donghai Wang, Dan Rogers Troy Kolb opened the executive board meeting BAE conference room. Minutes of the previous annual meeting were reviewed and a financial report was presented by Treasurer Dan Rogers. Roger noted the approval of expenditure to support the Section Scholarship. The scholarship fund is no longer underwater but does not have sufficient funds to support an award. No other expenses have been reported including expenditures for membership pins or awards. The draft minutes will be presented for approval by the membership at the next annual meeting. A financial report is attached. The next item of business was a discussion of open officer positions. Dan Rogers moved, seconded by Donghai Wang, to appoint Randy Price as 1 st Vice Chair and Ed Brokesh as 2 nd Vice Chair. Motion carried. The updated officers list is attached to the minutes. The next item of discussion was the 2010 Member and Young Member of the Year Awards but action was tabled since Naiqian Zhang could not attend the meeting to provide an update. Annual meeting options were discussed next. Rogers mentioned the discussions on meeting at the Kansas Natural Resources Conference in January with six other organizations and reviewed the meeting format as discussed by previously. The consensus was to have the next annual meeting at the KNRC. Randy Price as 1 st VP will serve as the section representative and organize a technical session for section member needs if possible. Joe Harner suggested a fall section meeting might also be held on campus in association with BAE welcome back student/faculty picnic. This event has recently been held on the first Friday after the students are back. This year is scheduled for August 26, Expansion of this event might be done to include: technical programming, KS section business meeting, BAE assembly, ATM assembly, Welcome Picnic, and alumni events in a one or two day format. 2 Friday 1-3 pm Technical Session for potential PE continuing education units (possibly an earlier morning session as well). 4-6 pm Profession Society and Alumni Meeting 6-8 pm BAE Picnic Optional Tours or other events might be added for Saturday as the discretion of the program planner. Joe Harner also announced a KSU alumni event at the ASABE meeting in Louisville. 3 Support for BAE Student Design Teams and Kansas Section Scholarships Dan Rogers reported that by exchanges the executive committee had committed $650 to fund the Kansas Section Scholarship. No student design teams had requested funds this year, so he moved to provide BAE $1000 to help fund student activities associated with ASABE activities at the discretion of the department head; the motion was seconded and carried.
