The conference will include several great speakers and topics, including Lisa Parker from GASB. Make your reservation now to attend by ing Koteshya Guidry (Koteshya.Guidry@medicaid.ms.gov). The deadline to RSVP is Monday, May 14, 2018 at Noon. There will be a silent auction at the conference with all proceeds benefiting Blair Batson Children s Hospital. National AGA will match a portion of the proceeds, so come prepared to bid! Additional information is included in this newsletter. The annual Governmental Meet and Greet event with business students attending Mississippi College held on April 12, 2018 was a great success! Thank you to Dr. Billy Morehead for organizing and promoting this event as well as Brandi Stuart, Kim McCrory, and Avis Phillips for representing our chapter and networking with the students. Thank you to our brave volunteers who showed up to work in the registration tent for the 2018 Komen Metro Jackson Race for the Cure, only for the race to be cancelled 15 minutes after registration started due to the weather. Everyone has been very gracious to volunteer for our community service events this year, and I greatly appreciate it! Mark your calendars now for our June 2018 meeting, which will be a joint meeting with the Mississippi Association of Governmental Purchasing and Property Agents (MAGPPA). The meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at the Clyde Muse Center. This is their annual reverse trade show with vendors, and there will be 3 hours of continuing professional education offered at this event. Anyone attending associated with AGA will pay a fee of $17.00 (unless you are a member of MAGPPA and you don t pay). The education sessions will be offered as follows: 10:00 11:00; 11:00 12:00; and 2:00 3:00, and lunch will be provided as part of the fee. There will be a CPE sign-in sheet for each session. We will use the same reservations process as we do for our monthly meeting. More details about topics and speakers for the education sessions will be provided soon. 7 AGA JACKSON CHAPTER Community Service Projects Month Event Assistance Provided October/November Community Stewpot The Jackson Chapter collects donations from attendees at regular chapter meetings during the months of October and November. December 21, 2017 Santa Day - MSH Santa Day at Mississippi State Hospital will be Thursday, December 21st. We welcome volunteers for Santa and elves to hand out gift bags and bring Christmas cheer! January 27, 2018 MS Blues Marathon The annual MS Blues Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, January 27, AGA Jackson Chapter volunteers work a water station each year. April 14, 2018 Susan G. Komen Central MS Steel Magnolias Race for the Cure AGA Jackson Chapter volunteers to help with registration. May 18, 2018 Blair E. Batson Hospital Silent auction fundraiser is held at the Spring Conference each year and a portion of the proceeds are matched by AGA National. April/May 2018 The Jackson Zoo AGA Volunteer Day at the Jackson Zoo. 11 DO YOU HAVE A FEW MINUTES? = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Minutes of AGA Regular Chapter Meeting Wednesday, April 11, 2018 Call to Order The AGA Jackson chapter meeting was called to order at 12:01 pm at the Capitol Club by Yolanda Campbell, AGA President. Minutes Yolanda asked if there were any corrections or additions to the minutes. There were no corrections. Brandi Zuber moved to approve the minutes. Avis Phillips seconded. The motion passed. Announcements Yolanda welcomed all members and visitors. She reminded everyone that the Spring Conference is May 18 th at Mississippi College. Early bird discount ends April 15 th. She also reminded everyone about the meet and greet at Mississippi on April 12 th from 4:30-6:30 pm. She notified the group that the CEC members voted to issue two scholarships again this year. One for undergraduate in the amount of $750 and one for graduate in the amount of $750. She also notified the group that membership renewals were due the end of March and so far there are about 50 that have not renewed. She introduced Avis Phillips the community service chair. Avis reminded everyone about the Susan G. Komen race on April 14 th in Ridgeland. She also mentioned that if anyone had any silent auction items for the spring conference to contact herself or Kim McCrory. Avis reminded everyone that she has the MS Blues Marathon t-shirts. Yolanda informed everyone that the June 11 th meeting will be a joint meeting with MAGPA at the Muse Center at Hinds in Pearl. There will be 3 hours of CPE offered. Speakers Brandi Zuber introduced the speaker for today s meeting. Dr. Brian Pugh, Ph.D., MS Department of Finance and Administration. He presented on 2019 Legislative Session Fiscal Update/ Overview of DFA One bill he mentioned is SB2779-Shared Services (Allow DFA and ITS to bill for services). The meeting adjourned at 1:03 pm. 12 Minutes of AGA Chapter Executive Committee Meeting Tuesday, March 27, 2018 Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 11:35 a.m. by Yolanda Campbell, AGA President, at the Woolfolk Building, 11 th Floor Conference Room. Attendees Officers present were Yolanda Campbell, Holly Savorgnan, Brandi Zuber, Avis Phillips, Brandi Stuart, Nita Caylor, and Samuel Cole. Kim McCrory and Gia Allen phoned in. CEC REPORTS Secretary Report Yolanda asked the CEC if there were any corrections to the last CEC minutes. There were no corrections. Nita moved to approve the minutes. Sam seconded. The motion passed. President Report Yolanda thanked the CEC members that were able to attend the dinner with Jim and his wife. She notified the group that he submitted an invoice for $250 for his visit. She notified the group that Kim entered 22,615 CRP points for our chapter. We are platinum level. She also notified the group that she is going to invite the new CEC members to next month s meeting. Josh Dixon is the new CGFM and Barbara Lawson is membership for next year. She also reminded the group about the SLM (Section Leadership Meeting) on April st. The meeting is in Kansas City and Kim and Avis will be attending. She asked the group if we wanted to offer the scholarships again this year and the group consensus was to offer the scholarships. $750 each for graduate and undergraduate. Membership Report Yolanda reported that there are 172 active, 21 new members, and 100 that have not renewed yet. She reported 1 new member for the month of February. Her name is Emily Harrington and she is currently working at the MS Office of the State Treasurer. Treasurer Report Nita presented the financials for February Brandi Stuart moved to approve. Brandi Zuber seconded. The motion passed. She notified the group that Batson received the AGA check in the amount of $1, She is going to check into a money market or savings account since we have a large balance in our account. Community Services Report Avis reminded the group that waivers for the Susan G. Komen race in April are due March 30 th. There are currently 9 volunteers. She is working on items for the silent auction at the Spring Conference. CGFM Report No report. By-Laws No report Newsletter/Website Report Brandi Stuart asked everyone to have items submitted by Monday, April 2 nd. She is working on converting the AGA website. Education Report Brandi Zuber informed the group that the April speaker is Brian Pugh, Ph.D., MS Department of Finance and Administration. He is speaking on 2019 Legislative Session Fiscal Update/ Overview of DFA She notified the group that the FBI has several topics to choose from for the Spring Conference. Public Corruption and Financial Crime were topics the group decided on..announcements/ Other Business The next CEC meeting is April 24. The next chapter meeting is April 11th.
