2018 Candidate Questionnaire Federal Level Candidate Name Position Sought Home Legislative District Are you a Democrat? Mohammad Said Senate Yes Campaign Contact Information Mailing address: P.O. Box 40 Ephrata WA Campaign manager or point of contact Consultant(s) Phone: Fax: Website: drsaidusa@yahoo.com Facebook: Dr.Mohammad Said & Dr. Said for US Senate 18 Part I Candidate Background Please briefly describe your qualifications, education, employment, community and civic activity, union affiliation, and other relevant experience. Attach a resume with more complete history. Expert in healthcare, holding one of the highest medical degrees in the US. Expert of US Arab/Muslim relations. M.D. with honors, PhD with honors, MPH, Specialist in Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Geriatric, Preventive & Alternative Medicine, Former Asst. Clinical Professor at VA in Fargo, ND Describe your history of involvement in Washington state politics. What campaigns, if any, have you run or worked on? Precinct Committee for Grant County. State Delegate Democratic Convention several times. National Platform Committee Former Vice Chair Democratic Central Committee Grant County. State Committeeman Grant County What prompted you to run for this office? What priorities are you seeking to address with your campaign? I am trying to convey a message to these fans particularly to the Palestinian, to the Arab, to the Muslim that we are enjoying the first amendment of the constitution of the US, I can run for public office regardless of my religion, ethnic, language and background. List the notable endorsements you have received to date. Who are you planning to ask for an endorsement?
Describe the progress of your campaign and campaign goals. For instance, what earned media has your campaign received? How much money have you raised, and from how many donors? How many doors have you knocked on? I have not received any money, as I have not solicited any contributions. I only have potentially a lot of volunteers who will distribute my flyers. Please answer the following questions. Yes* No 1 Have you ever failed to pay any taxes or court ordered judgments? 2 Have you ever been found in violation of a Public Disclosure Commission, Federal Election Commission or Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission regulation? * If you answered Yes to either of the above, please explain your answer: Part II Federal Issues # Question Yes No Qualify your response 1 Will you fight to prevent cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, even if such cuts are proposed by the White House? 2 Do you support the right of public workers, excluding military, to bargain and strike? 3 Do you support the withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan? 4 Do you support tuition-free college? However I would ask those students, who get free tuition to pay back in terms of community service in the US, or to join a similar program as Peace Corps, instituted by John F. Kennedy last century to help countries in need. 5 Do you support restoring the Glass-Steagall Act (requiring the separation of commercial and investment banking)? 6 Do you support passage of a strong Net Neutrality law protecting Internet freedom? 7 Do you support allowing oil companies like Shell to drill in the Arctic Ocean? 8 Do you support revising our federal tax code to restoring the 2017 tax rates to previous levels? 9 Do you support public financing of campaigns? 10 Would you be willing to lift the requirement on the Postal Service to be self-supporting or relax the requirements Congress has imposed
regarding USPS pension obligations? 11 Do you support the Employee Free Choice Act, as introduced in previous Congresses? 12 Do you support comprehensive immigration reform and the federal DREAM Act? 13 Do you support NSA reform and repeal of the widely-abused Patriot Act? 14 Do you support Medicare For All as a follow-up to the Patient Protection Act? 15 Do you support allowing mining companies to export coal (or other fossil fuels) from Washington s ports? I need to study this issue further. But from now on is to institute a guest worker program so that Latinos can come to work and leave their families behind, giving them enough time to go back and visit. 16 Do you support robust funding of Amtrak? We need to have a good track and this money could be saved, if we reign on the military and not treat them as a sacred cow. 17 Do you support boosting public funding for scientific research and space exploration? 18 Will you allow your campaign staff, and/or independent contractors assigned by your consultant to work your campaign, to elect to join a labor union such as Campaign Workers Guild. Part III Free Response Questions Have you read the most current King County Democratic Platform, approved by the delegates to the King County Convention and available from KCDCC s website. List which planks, if any, you disagree with, and why. I have not read it, but intend to do it soon and will be glad to send an about your platform. Describe your vision for tax reform and tax fairness. What federal corporate tax breaks and tax giveaways would you like to see rescinded or repealed? Or tax system favors the Rich and corporations, and this is not acceptable. What do the words Black Lives Matters mean to you? What actions should a progressive-led Congress take to combat systemic racism, particularly in the criminal justice system? I am totally against racism, I have been a volunteer in correction facilities for Muslim inmates for the last 14 years. Mostly in Coyote Ridge and Walla Walla, and occasionally in other centers in the West side.
In recent years, the right wing has mounted an aggressive attack on reproductive rights at the federal and state levels. How will you respond when Republicans bring up a bill to defund Planned Parenthood? On social issues I am pro-life, pro-family, and pro-traditional marriage between a man and a woman. However those issues are personal and for me the most important issues are foreign policy, the environment, and healthcare, change second amendment to make it a privilege and not right to bear arms, etc. I am calling to cut most of the foreign aid, except for people in need such as in Africa, but not to countries like Israel or Egypt, this aid coming from our tax payer we had spent trillions of dollars as we did in Afghanistan and Iraq with nothing in return. Do you support requiring employers to provide paid vacation, sick, and safe leave like other countries do? Yes I do, I been doing this in my own medical practice, which has been for 37 years in Washington State. A set of Supreme Court decisions allow corporations to be treated as persons, and money as speech. Do you support an amendment to end corporate personhood and corporate electioneering? No, I totally reject that. Here in Washington, the consequences of the climate crisis may result in reduced snowpack and a worsening of the pine beetle infestation. As a member of Congress, what public policy will you work for, to reduce emissions and penalize pollution? I will totally stick to the international agreement on climate changes, signed by former President Obama on behalf of the US withdrawing from that agreement by President Trump is outrageous, and hopefully we will defeat him next election. Media concentration and consolidation in the United States is a problem that just keeps getting worse. Most of the movie studios, publishing houses, TV stations, newspapers, and major Internet properties in the U.S. are owned by a handful of firms. The FCC and DOJ keep signing off on mergers that make big media bigger. What should Congress do to reverse this harmful trend? This trend has been very harmful and I just watch at News corporation/fox who practically most of the news are lies, to spread Islamophobia and hatred, etc. What ideas can you offer to make the U.S. government more open, transparent, and responsive to the American people? Are you committed to disclosing your meetings with lobbyists, if elected? I have lots of plans to make sure US Government is open and bot be subject to lobbying. See public Facebook Dr.Mohammad Said and website I am totally against lobbying on behalf of foreign governments, the most harmful is the Pro-Israeli lobbyist.
What do you hope to accomplish if you are elected? What are your priorities? I do not believe I will be elected, I am just trying to raise important issues that nobody in Congress is talking about. Most important objective is to target the groups who the majorities does not vote, is to register to vote, such as Muslims who are over 400,000 in Washington, the Latinos who are over 700,000 as I am Spanish speaking and the young people, it is a civic duty to register to vote for every citizen. Look at my website and my public Facebook Dr.Mohammad Said, which has as of today over 391,000 likes/fans from all over the world particularly from the Muslim world. Mass shootings have become a national epidemic. What do you see as being the root causes of this problem, and if elected, what concrete steps would you take to battle this problem? As I mention above, is to change the second amendment to make it a privilege and not right, temporarily we might institute some measure to cut down on mass shootings. I affirm that all the information provided in response to this questionnaire is true, complete and correct, to the best of my ability, and that no relevant matter has been omitted.
