3 Business Member Programs Committee October, 2015 Meeting Notes 1. Introductions he meeting was called to order by committee chair John Bartosiewicz. Everyone around the room introduced themselves. Meeting Notes from May Meeting he Meeting Notes from the May meeting were reviewed and approved. 3. Conference Program Sessions Update on Annual Conference Program Speaker he speaker is Rosabeth Moss Kanter who is a Harvard professor and wrote a book titled MOVE: Putting America's Infrastructure Back in the Lead, a sweeping look across industries and technologies shaping the future of mobility and the leadership required for transformation. She is an excellent speaker. Please attend the presentation and show your support. Discussion of potential topics and organization for the committee discussed the potential topics for 2016 which included: presidential election, reauthorization, futurists, emerging technologies, mega data and trends. Seek opics and Volunteers to Plan Bus and Rail Panels (if needed) Ms. Lynne Morison explained the process of selection of panels for the different conference sessions. he Business members should become part of the Conference Planning Committee and chose sessions that they can owe or

4 collaborate in. he programs Committee would like following themes in priority order for 2016 panels: 1) technology innovation and 2) Workforce development. he programs committee would like to sponsor these sessions. Also, it would like to market the sessions, have a raffle and appropriate language in conference planning. Action: Staff will investigate how the business members can sponsor sessions and whether we can have a raffle and what marketing can be done for that purpose. Natalie Cornell volunteered to work to pinpoint sessions at Rail and Raquel Oliver will work to pinpoint sessions at Bus. hey will work together with Mariela Garcia- Colberg. Action: Natalie, Raquel and Mariela will participate in Conference Planning Subcommittee process and choose sessions by January Meeting. he programs Committee would like to see credit given to the Business members when they sponsor a session. hey would like to have the purple sponsored by note added to all sessions and panels sponsored by the BMBG including the Keynote sessions which have the BMBG mentioned in the title. (i.e. the Monday morning session at San Francisco) Action: Staff will follow up with the marketing/ public relations and meetings department to learn how this can be done. 4. Discussion of potential Keynote Speakers for 2016 Annual Meeting in Los Angeles Committee agreed to seek a non-partisan, high profile political pundit as a speaker. Action: Mariela will get list from talent agencies by November 1 st, he leadership of the Programs Committee will discuss and choose alternatives by November 15 th, New Business In 2017, the Programs Committee will follow the Conference Planning Subcommittee schedule 6. Next Program Committee Meeting: January 20, 2016 at BMBG Annual Meeting in Hawaii 7. Adjourn he meeting was adjourned. he next Committee meeting will be at the BMBG Annual Meeting in Hawaii. All Business members are invited to attend.

6 SPEAKERS CHOSEN FOR ANNUAL MEEING Paul Begala Political Analyst and Commentator, CNN Paul Begala offers a witty and highly informed perspective on the Obama Administration, the Republican Congress, the race for the White House in 2016 and today s headlines. In the past 50 years, only four Democrats have won the White House. Paul Begala helped two of them. A commentator for CNN and professor at Georgetown University, Begala has worked in Congress and the White House, and in corporate life and academia. As a commentator for CNN, Begala appears on a variety of CNN programs, and writes opinion columns for CNN.com. Having advised campaigns around the world, including Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa, he quite literally brings a world of experience to the nation s long-term political landscape. Using historical guideposts, Begala provides audiences insights into the what, why and how of today s hot-button issues and what the next two years holds for the Obama Administration working with the Republican-controlled Congress and the 2016 Presidential election. Begala burst on the political scene with his partner James Carville as senior strategist for the Clinton-Gore campaign. He went on to serve President Clinton as counselor to the President, where he was one of his closest aides, helping to define and defend the Administration s agenda. In 2012, he was a senior advisor to Priorities USA Action, the pro-obama Super PAC, which played a critical role in President Obama s 2012 victory. Begala is the author of several New York imes best-selling books on politics, and has taught at the University of exas and the University of Georgia, as well as his current teaching position at Georgetown University.\ Michael Murphy Political Strategist, Political Analyst for NBC News and Contributing Editor, IME he man behind some of America's most successful political campaigns, Mike Murphy gives an unvarnished and honest look at the Obama Administration, Congress and today's political environment. When Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney decided to run for governor, they called Mike Murphy. Murphy s phone rang because he has a proven track record 26 gubernatorial and senatorial wins. Murphy, the man behind John McCain s famous Straight alk Express, gives audiences an unvarnished, honest look at American's political scene. Called a media master by Fortune magazine, Murphy has a humorous and engaging style that both informs and entertains. A leading television pundit, Murphy is a vocal leader in the discussion of how to reform the Republican party after back to back Presidential defeats. Murphy s work has caught the eye of corporate America, where he has advised a variety of Fortune 500 companies on policy, public relations and issues of strategic importance. He appears regularly on NBC s Meet the Press and oday as a political analyst, NPR where he contributes to Morning Edition and All hings Considered and is a contributing editor at IME magazine, writing the widely followed "Murphy's Law" political column. Murphy also serves as a Senior Fellow, Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, JFK School of Government at Harvard University.

8 Business Member Board of Governors Summary Report January 2016 Programs Committee Committee Work Program updates 1) Plan and deliver program sessions at the bus and rail conferences and the annual meeting that present discussions of key business member issues - Accomplishments: Excellent programs were delivered in All business member sponsored programs received positive comments and reviews on APA surveys. he committee spent time discussing and agreeing on a new process for selecting programs for the Bus and Paratransit and Rail Conferences. he new process will work more closely with the APA Program committees for the conferences. Business members already are active on these committees. New devices will be sought to highlight business member contributions in this area. APA Strategic Plan Goals Supported: Safety and Security First, Workforce Development, Demographic Shifts, echnological Innovation Anticipated Actions: Committee will be discussing the transition to the new process for selecting program topics. Work will be done with the APA staff to allow more recognition for business member involvement. 2) Support the use of high profile guest speakers who can bring a business message to APA s conferences and seminars Accomplishments: he high profile speaker for the San Francisco meeting was well received. Work began on selecting the speaker for the 2016 Annual meeting. APA Strategic Plan Goals Supported: Demographic Shifts, echnological Innovation, Association Development Anticipated Actions: Committee will finalize selection for 2016 meeting in Los Angeles and bring a recommendation to full BMBG at the January meeting. 1

9 3) Look for opportunities to present key business member issues at the transit board member seminar and the transit CEO seminar that focus on industry business issues. Accomplishments: Networking continued with leadership of the ransit Board Members Committee and the CEOs to identify key topics of interest. APA Strategic Plan Goals Supported: Association Development Anticipated Actions: January meeting. Committee will discuss plan of action for 2016 at 4) Create opportunities to promote and recognize business member contributions to APA and APA programs Accomplishments: Reached agreement on financial incentive for attendance at business member sponsored sessions at the Bus and Paratransit and Rail Conferences. APA Strategic Plan Goals Supported: Association Development Anticipated Actions: Committee will get approval from APA for the incentive plan with suitable recognition of the business member contribution in the printed program. A plan for other 2016 actions will be discussed at the Committee meeting in January and developed during the year. 5) Engage other business groups in APA by creating business to business opportunities for dialog and participation. Accomplishments: Committees. Supported the activities of other BMBG and APA APA Strategic Plan Goals Supported: echnological Innovation, Resource Advocacy, Association Development Anticipated Actions: January meeting. Committee will discuss plan of action for 2016 at Other Committee Issues and Updates Succession plan for will begin implementation in January with election of new Committee leadership.
