1 CIVIC LEAGUE OF HALIFAX AREA General Membership Meeting March 9, 2017 Teledyne Marine Call to Order Charlie Invocation Approval of the Minutes The meeting was called to order by: President Lydecker at 12:05 pm. The invocation was delivered by Bob Williams A motion was made, seconded and passed to approve the minutes of Jan. 21, 2017 meeting President Lydecker made the following announcements: * Jay Bond discussed area student robotic teams going to international competition. * Acknowledged Mary Greenlees for organizing program. * Thanked Teledyne Marine for hosting the meeting and providing lunch. Membership Reports MANUFACTURING - No Report EDUCATION No Report MEMBERSHIP - Applications due in May. Lydecker introduced officers. ISB CORRIDOR - No Report LOCAL GOVERNMENT Bob Williams gave a short report on the homeless issue. A committee will be formed to determine the role, if any, of the Civic League in this issue. PUBLIC RELATIONS - Mike Jiloty gave a special thanks to Pat Rice for the News Journal s coverage of the annual dinner. HISTORIAN - No Report TRANSPORTATION No Report

2 ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Keith Norden and Kent Sharples have a broad list of prospective companies interested in relocating to our area. GUEST SPEAKER Mike Reed, President and CEO, Teledyne Marine. Mr. Reed gave an overview of the company which is both a research and development facility and a manufacturing center for subsea technology. Teledyne Marine is a surface and subsea technology company that delivers innovative products and solutions to the oceanographic, energy and defense markets. They are the market leader in the field. The world headquarters are located in Daytona Beach. Following the presentation, Civic League members were given a tour of both the research and the manufacturing facilities. 3 CIVIC LEAGUE OF HALIFAX AREA General Membership Meeting May Call to order Invocation Approval of the Minutes The meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m. by Vice President Mary Greenlees The invocation was delivered by Bob Williams A motion was made, seconded and passed to approve the minutes of March 9, 2017 meeting Vice President Mary Greenlees made the following announcements: Introduction of officers and executive committee members This week is National Law Enforcement Week Membership Reports MANUFACTURING: EDUCATION: MEMBERSHIP: No Report No Report Membership Chairman Sheryl Cook reported that the deadline for new member applications has been extended to the end of the month. New members will be introduced at the November meeting. TRANSPORTATION: No Report ISB CORRIDOR/ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Bob Williams reported that there has been a lot of progress on the east ISB blight. The city of Daytona is allocating money toward the improvements along with other sources

4 GUEST SPEAKER Topic: Current Homelessness Issues The two guest speakers were Derrick Henry, Mayor, Daytona Beach and Ray Salazar, former United Way CEO and current member of the Commission on Homelessness. The purpose was to present information to the Civic League so that the members can decide what, if any, role the Civic League will take on this issue. Mayor Henry discussed: The First Step Proposal, a 501C3 formed by the city of Daytona Beach to address the issue of homelessness in the city. The mission is to reduce the number of people experiencing homelessness in the county. The city worked with many partners throughout Volusia to develop a program to serve the east side of the county. The proposal includes a full service, 24/7 shelter on city land on the western border of the city. Ray Salazar Discussed: The Commission on Homelessness believes that data should make the decisions: 1. Continue to embrace methodology of Housing First 2. Must support First Step Proposal 3. Continue to support alternatives such as Hope Place and Deland Shelter 4. Continue to use the North Street facility. The facility should be a closed campus; with no feeding program; and, with a future use to convert to permanent supportive housing units. 8 CIVIC LEAGUE OF HALIFAX AREA General Membership Meeting November 16, 2017 Call to Order Invocation Approval of the Minutes The meeting was called to order by President Charlie Lydecker The invocation was delivered by Bob Williams A motion was made, seconded and passed to approve the minutes of the September 21, 2017 meeting Treasurer Bob Coleman reported a bank balance of $44,663. President Lydecker made the following announcements: Jimmy Patronis, Florida CFO, will be the guest speaker at the annual meeting on January 20, Upcoming community events include : Margarita Ball, Fur Ball, Chamber Annual Dinner, Westside Wonder Women Membership Reports MEMBERSHIP - The following new members who were present were introduced: Fred Annon Jr, Jeff Brock, Suzanne Forbes, Carl Lentz IV, Theresa Rand, James Stowers ISB CORRIDOR - Joie Alexander reported on the status of East ISB project as well as pedestrian crossings near DSC and Mainland High ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT - Kent Sharples reported that Brown and Brown s move to downtown Daytona Beach should revitalize the area. Also, Braun Distribution is expanding. The area is out of available property inventory. HOMELESS ISSUE - Bob Williams reported on the status of the First Step Shelter program. The program goal is to provide permanent housing to more people.

9 GUEST SPEAKERS Joel White, President and Sloane Salzburg, Vice President of Horizon Governmental Affairs, Washington, DC, spoke on healthcare s state of affairs at the federal level. Horizon Governmental Affairs works exclusively in health care. The firm develops policy, meets with interested politicians to market ideas, and also manages coalitions in addition to representing individual clients.
