Amendments to SOLAS Convention 202 Amendments are adopted by resolution MSC.338(9) (see enclosure)... Amendments to Chapter II- Part A- Structure of ships The new Regulation 3-2 Protection against noise is added after the existing regulation 3-. The MSC adopted resolution MSC.337(9) (see item.3. of this circular) which contains a new Code (with mandatory and recommendatory provisions) which sets out to prevent the occurrence of potentially hazardous noise levels on board ships and to provide standards for an acceptable environment for seafarers. This regulation shall apply to ships of,600 gross tonnage and above:

2 2 / 5 QC-T for which the building contract is placed on or after July 204; or - in the absence of a building contract, the keels of which are laid or which are at a similar stage of construction on or after January 205; or - the delivery of which is on or after July 208, unless the Administration deems that compliance with a particular provision is unreasonable or impractical. On ships delivered before July 208 and: - contracted for construction before July 204 and the keels of which are laid or which are at a similar stage of construction on or after January 2009 but before January 205; or - in the absence of a building contract, the keels of which are laid or which are at a similar stage of construction on or after January 2009 but before January 205, measures in accordance with the Code on Noise levels on board ships, adopted by the Organization by resolution A.468(XII) shall be taken to reduce machinery noise in machinery spaces to acceptable levels as determined by the Administration. If this noise cannot be sufficiently reduced the source of excessive noise shall be suitably insulated or isolated or a refuge from noise shall be provided if the space is required to be manned. Ear protectors shall be provided for personnel required to enter such spaces, if necessary. Certain types of vessels, including high-speed craft, pile driving vessels, dredgers and mobile offshore drilling units, are exempted. Part C Machinery installations The existing Regulation 36 is deleted and left blank. The amendments shall enter into force on July Amendments to Chapter II-2 Part A General The footnote is added to the title of Regulation - Application and in the existing paragraph 2.4, the new subparagraphs.7 and.8 are added after the existing subparagraph.6. Part C Suppression of fire In Regulation 9 - Containment of fire, tables 9.3 and 9.4 are changed and paragraphs 6.2 and 6.3 are deleted and the subsequent paragraphs are renumbered accordingly. In Regulation 0 Fire fighting, paragraph and paragraph 0. are changed. After the existing paragraph 0.3, the following new paragraph is added: 0.4 Fire-fighter's communication For ships constructed on or after July 204, a minimum of two two-way portable radiotelephone apparatus for each fire party for fire-fighter's communication shall be carried on board. Those two-way portable radiotelephone apparatus shall be of an explosion-proof type or intrinsically safe. Ships constructed before July 204 shall comply with the requirements of this paragraph not later than the first survey after July 208. Part E Operational requirements In Regulation 5 Instructions, onboard training and drills, after the existing paragraph 2.2.5, the new paragraph is added: An onboard means of recharging breathing apparatus cylinders used during drills shall be provided or a suitable number of spare cylinders shall be carried on board to replace those used.

3 3 / 5 QC-T-270 Part G Special requirements In Regulation 20 Protection of vehicle, special category and ro ro spaces, the existing paragraph 6., including paragraphs 6.. and 6..2, are changed. The amendments shall enter into force on July Amendments to Chapter III Part B Requirements for ships and life-saving appliances After existing regulation 7, the new regulation 7- is inserted requiring all ships shall to have shipspecific plans and procedures for recovery of persons from the water, taking into account the Guidelines for the development of plans and procedures for recovery of persons from the water (MSC./Circ.42). The amendments shall enter into force on July Adoption of amendments to the Protocol of 988 relating to the International Convention on Load Lines, 966, as amended Amendments are adopted by resolution MSC.345(9) (see enclosure) entering into force on July 204. The amendments modified Chapter III Freeboards, Regulation 27 Types of ships..3 Amendments to IMO codes.3. The Code on noise levels on board ships The Code is adopted with resolution MSC.337(9) (see enclosure) entering into force on July 204 by SOLAS regulation II-/ Amendments to the International Code for Fire Safety Systems (FSS Code) Amendments are adopted by resolution MSC.339(9) (see enclosure) entering into force on July 204. The amendments modified Chapter 3 (breathing apparatus), Chapter 5 (fixed gas fire-extinguishing systems), Chapter 7 (fixed pressure water-spraying and water-mist fire-extinguishing systems), Chapter 8 (automatic sprinkler, fire detection and fire alarm systems), Chapter 9 (fire detection and alarm), Chapter 2 (fixed emergency fire pumps), Chapter 3 (arrangement of means of escape) and Chapter 4 (fixed deck foam systems)..3.3 Amendments to the International code for the construction and equipment of ships carrying dangerous chemicals in bulk (IBC Code) Amendments are adopted by resolution MSC.340(9) (see enclosure) entering into force on June 204. Chapters 7, 8 and 9 of the IBC Code are amended to incorporate numerous changes and developments since 2007, addressing carriage requirements for many new products and including new data now available. A majority of the revisions relate to the retroactive requirement, under MSC./Circ.324, that the Maximum Experimental Safe Gap (MESG) value for the media used to test Flame Preventer Devices corresponds to the product certified to be carried in the tank fitted with that tested device.a chemical tanker will be required to be certified with a revised cargo list (where relevant) and a revised Certificate of Fitness. There are approximately 50 products that have revised carriage requirements.
