2 FOREWORD DNV GL rules for classification contain procedural and technical requirements related to obtaining and retaining a class certificate. The rules represent all requirements adopted by the Society as basis for classification. December 2015 Any comments may be sent by to rules@dnvgl.com If any person suffers loss or damage which is proved to have been caused by any negligent act or omission of DNV GL, then DNV GL shall pay compensation to such person for his proved direct loss or damage. However, the compensation shall not exceed an amount equal to ten times the fee charged for the service in question, provided that the maximum compensation shall never exceed USD 2 million. In this provision "DNV GL" shall mean, its direct and indirect owners as well as all its affiliates, subsidiaries, directors, officers, employees, agents and any other acting on behalf of DNV GL.

5 SECTION 1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 1 Application 1.1 Application This chapter is applicable for: craft under the International Code of Safety for High-Speed Craft, i.e. passenger craft and cargo craft above 500 GT on international voyages craft with service restriction R0, R1 and R2 for the class notation Passenger craft, Ferry and Cargo Alternative requirements may be considered for service notations R3, R4, R5 and R6 for the class notations Passenger craft, Ferry and Cargo Unless explicitly provided otherwise, requirements of this chapter do not apply to: Ships of war and troopships Ships not propelled by mechanical means Wooden ships of primitive build Pleasure yachts not engaged in trade Fishing vessels Ships with class notations Crew, Patrol, Service, Naval landing Craft, or light craft. Part 3 Chapter 8 Section The operational restrictions of the craft may be limited to the maximum sea states for which the lifesaving appliances are certified. 2 Scope of work 2.1 General The scope of approval for life-saving equipment and arrangement according to Ch.8 and Annex 11 of the 2000 HSC Code will be decided on a case by case basis depending on authorisation. 2.2 Classification All relevant requirements for life-saving appliances and arrangements addressed by Ch.8 and Annex 11 of the International Code of Safety for High-Speed Craft (2000), as amended (hereafter referred to as the 2000 HSC Code) shall be complied with The Society will not enforce its own requirements related to life-saving appliances and arrangements for assignment of main class. 2.3 HSC Safety Certificate The Government of the flag state is responsible for ensuring that the craft is provided with the lifesaving equipment and arrangement required by the 2000 HSC Code. 6 2.3.2 When the Society has been authorized by the Government of the flag state to issue the HSC Code safety certificate, the requirements in Sec.2 shall apply as the Society's basis for stating compliance with Ch.8 and Annex 11 of the 2000 HSC Code Where the Government of the flag state has not authorized the Society to issue the HSC safety certificate on their behalf, the Society will only require either written confirmation from the flag state that the HSC certificate will be issued by them or that a copy of the HSC certificate shall be submitted for the Society's files. Based on this copy, the vessel will be assigned main class. 3 Documentation 3.1 General Verification of design is based on an assessment of plans and documentation containing relevant information element Documentation shall be submitted as required by Table 1. 8 SECTION 2 REQUIREMENTS FOR ISSUANCE OF HSC SAFETY CERTIFICATES 1 General 1.1 Application The requirements in this section apply when the Government of the flag state have authorized the Society to issue the HSC safety certificate on their behalf. 1.2 Purpose The purpose of this section is to provide a set of clarifying requirements to Ch.8 and Annex 11 of the 2000 HSC Code. The clarifying requirements are made up of the Society's and IACS' interpretation to the 2000 HSC Code and are meant as a further detailing and clarification of the basic 2000 HSC Code requirement. Part 3 Chapter 8 Section Scope All requirements in the 2000 HSC Code Ch.8 and Annex 11 (including definitions in Ch.1) are considered as part of the Society's scope under the authorization from the Government of the flag state Where IMO has issued interpretations to Ch.1, Ch.8 and Annex 11 of the 2000 HSC Code in the form of MSC/Circulars, such interpretations are regarded as part of the 2000 HSC Code and the Society's scope. Guidance note: Reference is made to IMO MSC/Circ issued September 2003, Interpretation of the 2000 HSC Code and SOLAS Chapter X.
