OPEN HOUSE 2 SUMMARY & METROQUEST SURVEY REPORT PREPARED BY CENTRALINA COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS DECEMBER 6, 2017
The second public engagement event for the Northwest Huntersville Transportation Study was held on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Lee S. Duke Water Treatment Plant. This event was a dropin that was open to the public from 6:00 pm 8:00 pm. It was designed to present alternative transportation alignments and receive feedback from participants. Engagement elements at the second open house included the use of educational boards, study area maps showing alternative alignments that participants could mark on and leave comments, dot voting on preferred road features based on the top ranked priorities that emerged from the first MetroQuest survey, and a second online MetroQuest survey. Participants were informed that they could take the MetroQuest survey at the event or any other time before November 17, The residents and stakeholders that came to the were interested, engaged, and passionate about this study. The project team came away from this event with a better understanding of which alternative alignments residents and stakeholders prefer, as well as preferred road features. 2 By the Numbers: 83 participants signed in at the event 12 staff members were present to engage with the public 9 feedback forms were submitted 1
Northwest Huntersville Transportation Study 2 Results 1 star means least desirable and 5 stars means most desirable Comments on A 1 Do not disrupt and change the point of a neighborhood. Quality of life will decrease and crime will increase. Major parking issues for townhomes. Many children and bus stops dangerous. This was the planned route on thoroughfare plan. Most alternatives harm public land. Please do not cut through Hugh Torance and make it a major road that would be very dangerous and reduce quality of life. DO NOT run straight through Gilead Ridge. EPA issue too close to the lake. Traffic light needed on Gilead Road outside Gilead Ridge. A Responses Responses Comments on A 2 Do not support too much impact to public park land. Like Hugh Torance Parkway behind Gilead Ridge community. Connect Hugh Torance to Ervin Cook and then to Oliver Hager (not Hugh Torance behind Gilead Ridge). Connect Ervin Cook to Oliver Hager. A Responses Responses 2
Comments on A 3 Hugh Torance Parkway extension behind Gilead Ridge community. Bridgegate Drive is not wide for through traffic. Too close to the lake. Left hand turn at Beatties Ford and Gilead?? Accidents and traffic nightmare looking to happen!! A roundabout may be the best option or traffic light. Best option of the A group, hands down. Maximizes connectivity and minimizes disruption of Gilead Ridge neighborhood. Too much impact on public park land. No roundabout. A Responses Responses Comments on A 4 Yes go through Gilead Ridge use intended right of way as planned! The right of way was there before the houses. DO NOT run straight through Gilead Ridge! A Responses Responses 3
Comments on B 1 Move alignment further off park. DO NOT run straight through Gilead Ridge. Please do not go through Hugh Torance Parkway. Avoid/reduce curve at Ervin on Hugh Torance. Yes! Go through Gilead Ridge. Use right of way as intended. The right of way was there before houses. The neighborhood knew. Don t block now!! B Responses Responses Comments on B 2 This is clearly the best option. Too much impact to park do not support. Go through Gilead Ridge using dedicated right of way that was established before houses built! B Responses Responses 4
Comments on B 3 Great bike path opportunities when 73 realigned. Lake to park biking. Too close to back of homes. B 3 is the only one that makes any sense! Go through Gilead Ridge use existing dedicated right of way. Too much impact on public park land. No roundabout. Hugh Torance Parkway behind Gilead Ridge community. B Responses Responses Comments on B 4 Yes! Go through Gilead Ridge use existing dedicated right of way. DO NOT run straight through Gilead Ridge. Too close to back of homes. Safety issues with Hugh Torance Parkway due to closeness of houses and kids. Prefer not impacting the park like no road here. Major parking issues. Lots of children and bus stops. Hugh Torance extension should follow Thoroughfare Plan. Safety issue speed prob for children. B Responses Responses 5
