3 NHRC TO HOLD THREEE DAY OPEN HEARING AND CAMP SITTING Wednesday, 09 August 2017 The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will be holding its three-day Open Hearing and Camp Sitting for cases of human rights violations and related grievances at Yojana Bhawan from Wednesday. As per NHRC communiqué said that in addition to fresh complaints received in response to public notices, the Commission has decided to take up during Camp Sitting and Open Hearing some cases of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes victims already under consideration. The Commission will take up 255 cases during its Camp Sitting and Open Hearing which will be inaugurated by NHRC Member, Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose on Wednesday morning. Later, the Commission will take up 171 cases to be heard by NHRC members Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose, Justice D Murugesan, SC Sinha and Jyotika Kalra. Matters pertaining to atrocities on Scheduled Castes, improperr implementation of welfare schemes of Central and State Governments for Scheduled Castes, non- people, non-issue registration of FIR, land grabbing of Scheduled Castes by upper class of caste certificates etc were expected to come up for hearing before the members. Complainants as well as concerned authorities have been asked to remain present at the time of hearing. On the second day, 17 important cases will be taken up by the NHRC team which include cases of large number of deaths of prisoners in UP jails, denial of admission to mentally ill patients from Uttarakhand at Bareilly mental hospital, missing children, electrocution and cases of death in police action. On the concluding day, the Commission will have an interaction with NGOs between 10am to 11am, followed by discussion with Chief Secretary, DGP, DMs, SPs and other senior civil, police and jail officers of UP over issues raised by NGOs at Yojana Bhawan from 11:30am to 12: :30pm. Later, Members of the Commission would brief the media about the outcome of Open Hearing and Camp Sitting as well as discussions with NGOs and senior UP officials for wider dissemination of information on human rights issues and action taken by the Commission for their protection and promotion.
4 Nerella incident: Congress team meets NHRC chief THE HANS INDIA Aug 09,2017, 05:16 AM IST New Delhi: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has assured an AICC delegation that it would depute a team to seek a report on Nerella incident which the party has made its focal point in its fight against the TRS government of late. A team led by R C Khuntia, newly-appointed in-charge of TPCC, former PCC presidents V Hanumantha Rao, P Laxmaiah, MPs M A Khan, Renuka Chowdary and Rapolu Anand Bhaskar and chief spokesperson of TPCC Dasoju Sravan met NHRC Chairman H L Dattu in the morning and briefed him about the Nerella incident. Complaining to him that the SCs and BCs of Nerella in Sircilla district were being harassed in the village ever since the assault on people protesting against the land mafia. They told him false cases were filed against Congress leaders in the incident for joining hands with the peoplee in the struggle against the ruling party's corruption. Later, the delegation also tried to meet the Chairman of the National SC Commission, Ram Shankar Katheria, but, as he was not present, they submitted a memorandum to his office complaining against the Superintendent of Police alleging excesses on his part.
5 Congress petitions NHRC over torture of dalits, BCs HYDERABAD,AUGUST 09, 2017 The Congress took the Nerella issue to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in New Delhi seeking its intervention and requesting it direct the Telangana Government to register cases under SC ST Prevention of Atrocities Act against Sircilla-Rajanna district Superintendent of Police and the police officials who allegedly tortured the villagers, apart from instituting an independent enquiry to provide proper compensation and protection to the victims. A delegation led by R.C. Khuntia, AICC incharge of Telangana; former PCC presidents Ponnala Laxmaiah, V. Hanmanth Rao and Parliament members - Renuka Chowdary, Nandi Yellaiah, Rapolu Anand Bhaskar, M.A. Khan; and Sravan Dasoju, general secretary, TPCC, met NHRC Chairman and presented a memorandum to him explaining how the police illegally detained the villagers, including some dalits, and tortured them. They said the villagers were angry over the death of B. Bhudaiahh of Nerella village of Thangallapalli mandal in Siricilla-Rajanna district, who was run over by a sand lorry. Hundreds of villagers from Nerella and neighbouring Jillella and Ramachandrapuram villages gathered at the accident site, stopped three trucks, and set them on fire. The police picked up eight persons of which five belong to Scheduledd Castes and three to OBC community from their houses in the middle of the night. Third-degree torture Superintendent of Police Vishwajit Kampati and his staff have subjected them to severe third-degree torture, beating indiscriminately, pouring hot water on their private parts, gave electric shocks and administered sedatives continuously for four days, it said. The representation further said: They were produced before Judicial Magistrate after four days of torture - on July 8. The jailer, having found severe injuries on their bodies, referred the eight victims to hospital for treatment. The police threatened the victims to keep quiet, lest they would book false cases against them and their family members, showing them as prostitutes and drug peddlers. So far, no cases have been booked against sand contractors for these deaths. No enquiry has been initiated by the government on police brutalities, no cases have been booked under the SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the Superintendent of Police, his staff and police officials who have committed the atrocities on SCs, the representation said. Former Lok Sabha Speaker, Meira Kumar also visited the villages of Nerella and Jillella and interacted with the family members of the victims.

TPCC general secretary Dasoju Sravan said that Dattu assured them that an inquiry team would be sent to Nerella soon.
7 NHRC team begins probe into violence AUGUST 09, 2017 A delegation of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) arrived here on Tuesday to inquiry into the spate of political violence that rocked the State recently. An team comprising Deputy Superintendents of Police (Dy.SPs) I.R. Kurillose and Ravi Singh, and Inspectors Bimaljit Uppal and Rajendra Singh visited the BJP State committee office to collect evidence in connection with the attack on the building. They recorded the statementt of BJP State president Kummanam Rajasekharan, office secretary Jayaraj and others who were present at the office during the time of attack. They collected details regarding the crude bomb attack on the office in September last. The team is likely to visit the house of slain RSS functionary Rajesh at Sreekaryam on Wednesday. The officials said they would visit all the areas that witnessed violence and submit a report to the commission. The commission had registered a case on a complaint filed by Mr. Rajasekharan, following which it directed the State government to submit a report. While the State Police Chief had submitted a report which stated that members of all political parties had come under attack, the commission had issued a direction seeking a list of cases regarding the murders and attacks on the workers of political parties.
