9 CSEA's Never Quit campaign is about maintaining and growing the strength of New York's Leading Union. It's about valuing the commitment of CSEA members who work hard every day to make our communities a better place. And it's about becoming a stronger, more united union in the face of attacks on workers' rights. Good evening, Nassau County! Renee and the rest of the CSEA Never Quit Team are out knocking on doors and engaging members tonight in your neighborhood! # neverquit CSEA Nassau County Local 830 President Jerry Laricchiuta proudly presents his Never Quit card! Jerry and his team were instrumental to the great success of this campaign. Thank you, Jerry Corporate and Conservative Americans are continually trying to destroy the middle class by trying to destroy Labor Unions. We can never let that happen, NEVER!!! Those who don't like labor unions DO NOT UNDERSTAND TODAY'S UN- IONS!!! We can never Quit on our unions because our unions will never Quit on their members. Laura Picht and Nassau County Assessment Unit President Rich Dopkin are two of the 254 members who pledged yesterday that they will # neverquit CS EA!

14 ATTENTION CSEA MEMBERS - CSEA President Danny Donohue has issued the following statement with respect to the passing of Supreme Court Justice Scalia: Dear CSEA Members, On behalf of CSEA members across New York, I offer my condolences to the family of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. With Justice Scalia s passing, I know that some will be tempted to breathe a sigh of relief on the Friedrichs case and think we can go back to business as usual. That would be a huge mistake. The pundits and legal experts are suggesting that we are now unlikely to see a decision that strikes down agency/fair share fees this term. While this is good news, what it really means is that we have a bit more time to change our union and prepare for the battles ahead. This case is far from over. It will either be a no decision or pushed into the next term of the Supreme Court. From the beginning, we have said that our efforts to engage CSEA members more deeply in the union is not about any one Supreme Court case. We are facing a consistent, sustained and escalating attack on wages, benefits and rights of working people. The forces that are attacking workers and unions have been at this for decades. They will not stop. All CSEA leaders and activists need to step up. We need to use this time we have to redouble our efforts to build a union that will withstand their attacks, engage members in re-imagining our union, defend the wages, benefits and rights we have achieved together, build the strength to raise standards for working families, and elect a president who will stand with us in the face of the attacks to come. Now is not the time to rest. Now is the time to own your union and raise your voice for fairness and justice for yourselves, and your families, friends and neighbors. I urge all CSEA members to get involved in the union, join an outreach team in your Local or Unit, become a Steward, become an Advocate by talking with your co-workers about the challenges we still face. CSEA will never quit in our fight for fairness in our workplaces and our communities. Now is the time to fight on. 15 A Message from Long Island Region One President Nick LaMorte February 2016 One of the best things about CSEA is our diversity. Our membership is a true reflection of the society that we live in and everyone has a voice. When I first became Region One President, one of the first things I did was change the name of the Minority Committee to the Human Rights Committee. I did that because we are more alike than we are different; all of us have issues that transcend race. No one knew that better than Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. When Dr. King was killed, he was in Memphis to address AFSCME sanitation workers. He gave his famous I ve Been to the Mountaintop speech in support of our union brothers and sisters who were on strike. We owe it to him and his legacy to make sure he did not die in vain. His thoughts and ideas will live on through us. Let s continue his tradition of unity by joining our regional committees and attending CSEA organized events. They are a great way for us to get to know each other. Take time to re-establish relationships with work colleagues. Most of us spend more time with our co-workers than we do our families. It only makes sense to water the seeds of these blossoming relationships. Because we are CSEA family, we must also protect each other. Unions are under attack, now more than ever. We can t afford internal problems. We have to defend our members, their work ethic and their training. The powers that be know how strong we are when we re united. That s why they re doing everything in their power to break us apart. I say we don t make it easy for them. Stand strong in your union convictions and maintain our solidarity. We are responsible for the future of CSEA. This is your union, my union and our tomorrow. In Solidarity, Nick

There have been bleak moments in America s history, battles we were engaged in where American victory was far from certain. I support our troops, wholeheartedly and without reservation. But I cannot support a resolution that simply opposes a new strategy without offering any alternative plan to win. There is too much at stake.
