2 Voter Assist Terminal (VAT) Using Verity Touch Writer, voters mark digital ballots via a touch screen. After the voter has confirmed their selections, the marked ballot prints. The voter can then retrieve their ballot and cast it using Verity Scan.

3 Verity Access Allows voters with disabilities to vote privately and independently. 5 Verity Touch Writer The Verity Touch Writer screen displays an access code screen throughout the day. When a voter requests to use the VAT, a poll worker will create an access code and initialize the ballot.

6 When issuing a ballot to the voter, the poll worker will ask if they want to use the voter assist terminal (VAT) (ADA machine) to vote their ballot. If a voter says yes, the poll worker will issue a ballot in the poll book and tear the stub off of it. The blank ballot will be labeled/voided and placed in a security envelope because it is not needed; the VAT will print a ballot for those voters. This process also allows VAT voters to maintain the same ballot numbering sequence as all of the voters at the precinct. A poll worker will go to the VAT with the voter to create an access code and enable the machine for the voter to use.

7 begin voting After the Access Code is entered, the voter will start on the Begin Voting screen. From here, they can start voting (by tapping Begin Voting), learn how to use the ballot, or view a list of contests on the ballot. The Language, Audio, and Screen settings and the Help button are also available.

8 help button & features The Help Button is located at the top right of the device screen. This button takes the voter to a screen with help topics for the voting step currently underway Verity Touch Writer

9 The Language Button is located at the top left of the device screen. This button allows the voter to change the language of the instructions and ballot (In Genesee County, only English is available)

10 The Screen Button is located at the top center left of the device screen. This button lets the voter change the screen settings (contrast and text size) and to turn off the screen (if using headphones only) Verity Touch Writer

11 The Audio Button is located at the top center right of the device screen. This button allows the voter to change the Audio settings (volume, speed, and pitch) Verity Touch Writer

12 write-in voting Verity Touch Writer 1 Select the write-in option 2 Type the name of the desired write-in candidate, then select Accept 3 The write-in option will appear with a green check mark to the left of the choice, along with the candidate name entered

13 review choices The voter can review choices by tapping the Review Choices button They can then return to the ballot to make changes or print their final ballot

14 print ballot After reviewing and confirming their choices, the voter will choose Print Ballot The voter retrieves the printed ballot from the laser printer next to their device (all are double sided). Voter must wait for the printer to print both sides before touching the ballot. The voter slips the ballot into the ballot privacy sleeve The voter takes the printed ballot to the Verity Scan device to cast their ballot
