In this lesson, you learned that many factors can play a role in the success or failure of new countries. Now you will use what you learned. Use the information in the table below and your knowledge of geography to complete this task. The Task: Comparing Two New Countries' Chances of Success This table shows data for two nation-states that became independent in 1993.

5 13. Your task is to decide which one is more likely to succeed. Step 1: Compare life expectancy and the infant mortality rate for the countries. Circle the figures that indicate a better quality of life. Step 2: Compare the GDP figures. Circle the per capita GDP of the country with the stronger economy. Step 3: Compare the ethnic makeup of each country. Circle the single largest ethnic group in terms of percent of the country's population. Step 4: Compare the freedom Index Rankings of the countries.
