3 What is #DiscoverEU DiscoverEU is a new EU initiative giving 18- year-old young people from all backgrounds the opportunity to travel around Europe, learn from other cultures, make new friendships with fellow Europeans, and as such, understand what the EU stands for. More than 100,000 young people applied for the 15,000 travel passes available under the first application round launched in June 2018.

9 The role of Eurodesk Eurodesk network & Eurodesk Brussels Link among other activities are the acting helpdesk for any enquiries that come from the European Youth Portal (europa.eu/youth) and are the main providers of the content for the portal (over items) Within the DiscoverEU s first-call Eurodesk network received and answered over 5000 questions (1 month period) and promoted the initiative.

17 #DiscoverEU Save the date Opening date of registration: Closing date of registration: Notification of award: 29 November (12:00 CET) 11 December (12:00 CET) Mid-January 2019 (via ) First departure date: 15 April 2019 Last return date: 31 October 2019 This application round will award at least travel passes.

18 #DiscoverEU Application steps All applications are submitted via europa.eu/youth/discovereu 1. Eligibility check 2. Choosing between travelling alone or in a group of 5 3. Providing a valid address 4. Fill in the application form (personal data) 5. Answer a quiz of 5 multiple-choice questions + a subsidiary question 6. Give additional information on their travel plans 7. Confirmation by through the European Youth Portal once the application is submitted

19 #DiscoverEU Basic rules be 18 years old on 31 December 2018, born between 1 January 2000 (included) and 31 December 2000 (included); have the nationality of one of the Member States of the EU; fill in the application from 29 November (open 13 days) fill in the correct ID or passport number on the online application form; answer the quiz and be as close as possible to the subsidiary question (guess a number)

20 1. Basic rule, travel by rail #DiscoverEU Transportation 2. Special cases, the option of travelling by plane may be allowed. This is the case for those young people residing: In the nine outermost regions (i.e. Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, la Réunion, Mayotte, Saint-Martin, Madeira, Azores and Canary Islands); In countries/regions which are not accessible by the previous mentioned transportation means (rail networks, ferry and buses); When young people have to travel more than 18 hours via land or sea transport before crossing the border of the departure country of their trip.

23 UK s case Can apply but in case there is no deal on Brexit the applicants will not be taken and the quota will be equally redistributed among the other countries

24 Allocations per country There is a quota of travel tickets set for each EU Member State. The allocation of the travel tickets is based on the share of each EU Member State in the EU population. The number of travel tickets available per EU Member State is indicated on the European Youth Portal/Discover EU.

25 Someone else travelling Can a relative or friend older than 18 travel with me? Yes, as long as they book and pay for the travel costs themselves. However, you are advised not to book tickets or accommodation in advance before your DiscoverEU travel pass is delivered.

26 Expired ID/incorrect data Can apply with the old ID, when awarded needs the new ID If they don t fill in the application correctly (wrong birthday) they can correct it later when booking the tickets with the contractor

27 Reserve list There is a reserve list of about people for this round. They will be taken in the order of their application, subsidiary question/quiz and awarded in case someone from the selected participants drops out.
