CLE Committee Vice-Chair, Heather Apicella, calls the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. Luis Insignares (Chair) is in an emergency meeting on the west coast of Florida so Heather and David Hirschberg (Secretary) will be running the meeting. Heather Apicella (Vice-Chair) David Hirschberg (Secretary) Lauren Alperstein Staci Burton Ashley Johnson Jennifer Miller-Morse Erskine Rogers Charlie Jameson Sarah Saull Bonnie Sockel-Stone Eddie Stephens Jamie Morris Albert Alguadich, Jr. Trisha Armstrong Patricia Elizee II. Thank You to Officers Heather thanks this past year s officers for all of their hard work. III. Introduction of Incoming Officers Tomorrow, the Bar cycle begins. *Heather and Luis are Co-Chairs *Bonnie and David are Co-Vice Chairs *Sarah Saull is Secretary Norberto Katz, outgoing Chair of the Section, walked in and was recognized by Heather. He thanks the committee for its hard work over the past year. Norberto also discussed a need to develop future leaders of the Section and discussed how to get more involved. 1
3 IV. Approval of the Minutes: The minutes from the last live meeting on January 29, 2015 which were included with the agenda, are approved after Motion made by Bonnie and seconded by Albert. V. Reports on Recent CLEs: A. February 18, 2015 (LCC s-all Issues Related to Divorce): David updates that the chair of this seminar, Deb Welch, stepped in at the last minute and did a phenomenal job making sure we were ready to go. Successful CLE and wellattended. B. March 6, 2015 (Real Estate Issues): This was a live seminar in Orlando. Luis was in charge. Sarah reports it was successful and the CLE went off flawlessly. C. April 2015 (Live Retreat in Puerto Rico): Heather reports the Spring Retreat was sold out and a huge success for the Section. D. May 13, 2015 (Consultants in Family Law): Bonnie states it was not successful and only 12 people registered because: a) the brochure went out late; and b) it was advertised with Trial Advocacy in , so it was bundled and came second in order. Bonnie did say that, nonetheless, the speakers were very interesting. Heather discussed the problem of brochures going out late, not being publicized enough, and potential ways to address this issue. E. June 3, 2015 (Criminal Issues in Family Law): Heather reports that only 25 people registered for this CLE, which was low. Mark O Mara spoke alone, and should have drawn more people. Heather believes this was due to the brochure being published way too late. VI. Upcoming CLEs/Unfinished Business: A. July 15, 2015 (Income Tax, Estate and Gift Tax Consequences in a Divorce): Luis is chairing this CLE. Speakers are Juan Bendeck and Nathan Harman. B. August 2015 (Trial Advocacy Workshop from Key Biscayne, Florida): 2
4 Workshop will be August 6 to 9 at the Ritz and is sold out. C. Live Meetings September 24 and 25, 2015 will be the live fall meetings of the Section at the Vinoy Renaissance Resort in St. Petersburg. D. October 8, 2015 (Hot Topics on Children s Issues): David reports that speakers include Dr. Day (Alienation/Alignment issues); Susan Savard (Split Parenting Guidelines); David Hirschberg and Chris Rumbold (Same Sex Parentage Issues) and a Judicial Panel hosted by Elisha Roy to discuss whether Judges already believe there is a 50/50 presumption. David reports a big problem is this is June 24, 2015, and he cannot get the brochure out because the Bar won t set the location for the seminar for another couple weeks. Bonnie discusses that we need to schedule in October/November 2015 the Mechanics of Board Certification Seminar (we scheduled it for November 12), and we need to add the Case Law update seminar (scheduled for October 21/22). Bonnie will chair Mechanics, and the Case Law Update will be chaired by Jennifer Miller-Morse and Bonnie. E. November 18, 2015 (Practice and Procedures of General Magistrates and Hearing Officers): Heather acknowledges all deadlines for this seminar have passed and we need to follow up. F. December 16, 2015 (Top Mistakes in Family Law) Even though this seminar is several months away, already have numerous great speakers lined up including Judge Christine Greider, Judge Birken, Judge Burton, and GM Kirigin. This seminar is being chaired by Phil Wartenberg. G. January 2016 (Marital and Family Law Review Course) January 29 and 30, 2016 at the Hilton Bonnet Creek in Orlando, Florida. H. February 17, 2016 (Technology) Luis has appointed Tim McCann as chair. Speakers have already been selected. I. March/April/May are open Heather discusses filling these three months. Discussion is had amongst the group. Ultimately it was decided as follows: 3
5 March 2016 will be Advance Equitable Distribution (i.e., KAAA). Someone like David Manz is a possible speaker. April 2016 should be reserved as a legislative update from Chris Rumbold and Philip Wartenberg (incoming chairs of Legislation Committee) to discuss the legislation session. This is particularly good if a major bill like alimony passes. May 2016 will be a Daubert CLE. Erskine and Staci volunteer to Chair. At this time, the incoming Chair of the Section, Maria Gonzalez, walks into the room and is recognized. She states that she is looking forward to working with us over the coming year. VII.
