2 INVITATION Dear Colleagues The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Cape Town is privileged to be organising the 33rd National Congress for the South African Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in October The SASOG 2008 Congress will be held at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West which is in the midst of the breathtaking surroundings of the famous Cape Winelands. This venue is also conveniently situated 20 minutes from Cape Town International Airport and offers excellent facilities both for the formal academic programme as well as the workshops and social events. The theme of the Congress is Women s Health - The Wheel of Life. An outstanding group of international speakers has been invited to participate in this Congress and we are confident that they, together with the national Faculty, will ensure that this meeting offers the latest information on significant developments as well as state-of-the art practice in our discipline. We hope the few days of the congress will not only enrich your professional, scientific and academic knowledge but will also afford you the opportunity to re-establish old acquaintances and forge new friendships with others in our profession. The Congress Secretariat will only confirm your registration in writing once full payment has been received. Your registration fee includes: *Admission to all scientific sessions for the durations of the congress including breakfast symposia (but excludes pre-congress workshops) *Congress bag, programme and abstract book and other congress material *Luncheons and Teas *Admission to Welcome Cocktail Function The Registration Desk will be situated in the exhibition area at the Lord Charles Hotel and will open on Saturday the 4th of October at 17h00 Cancellation of Registration Notice of cancellation must be given in writing. An administration fee of R350 will be charged to all cancelled registrations received prior to 31 August Any cancellations received after this date will result in a 100% cancellation fee.

4 Accommodation Discounted accommodation rates have been negotiated and block bookings have been made at various hotels and Bed & Breakfast establishments in Somerset-West and surrounding areas, such as Strand, Gordon s Bay and Stellenbosch. A complimentary shuttle service will run between all the official congress hotels. Please refer to the accommodation form for details. All accommodation must be booked via the Congress Secretariat. Credit card details are required to book your accommodation. Complimentary Airport / Hotel Transfers & Shuttle Service A complimentary shuttle service from Cape Town International Airport to all official Congress Hotels and selected Bed and Breakfast establishments will be available. The complimentary shuttle will operate on a daily basis between the official congress hotels and the Lord Charles Hotel. Transfer schedules will be available in the next announcement and posted on the website Personal Insurance Please note that all delegates are responsible for their own travel insurance, medical insurance and cancellation fees. Language The Congress will be conducted in English. No translation service will be available. CPD Accreditation The Congress as well as the Pre-Congress Workshops will be CPD accredited. Breakfast Symposia Trade sponsored breakfast symposia will be held at the Lord Charles Hotel on Sunday the 5th of October and on Monday the 6th of October. Delegates are welcome to have breakfast at the Lord Charles Hotel, prior to the symposia which will be held in various meeting rooms at the hotel. The breakfast symposia will be CPD accredited. 6 Call for Abstracts The Committee invites the submission of abstracts for oral (free communication) and poster presentation. The closing date for the submission of abstracts is 15 June The theme of the Congress is Women s Health - the Wheel of Life All abstracts must be ed to the Congress Secretariat, Sonja Du Plessis on sonja@londocor.co.za. Please note that no hardcopy submissions will be accepted, and therefore faxed or posted abstracts will not be processed. All appropriately submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee. Authors are invited to indicate their preference for oral and/or poster presentation, but the final decision on the format of presentation rests with the Scientific Committee. All abstracts received will be acknowledged, and authors will be sent acceptance or rejection letters by 30 July Instructions to Authors: 1) Each abstract must clearly state the following: a) Abstract title b) Name and list of author(s). The name of the presenting author must appear first in the list of authors. c) Affiliations of author(s) d) Contact details of first author (telephone numbers, address, etc) e) Preferred format of presentation (oral or poster) 2) Abstracts must be typed in English, single line spacing, Arial font. 3) The body of the text must not exceed 450 words (this is excluding the information listed in point 1). 4) Please adhere to the following format: a) Introduction: should be brief and informative and state the aim of the study; b) Methods: include description of subjects and research methodology; c) Results: outline the findings of the study supported by statistics as appropriate. Do not use figures, graphs or tables in the abstract. The data provided must be sufficient to permit peer review of the abstract; d) Conclusion: provide summary and relevance of the main findings. 5) All accepted abstracts will be published in the abstract handbook without further editing. Abstracts that do not adhere to the specified format cannot be included in the handbook.

This list will be forwarded to the trade on a 2-weekly basis. 3) SASOG does not choose who gets selected, but encourages the trade to sponsor in an ethical and balanced manner, i.e private and public service. 4) There is no guarantee that you will get sponsorship - but it increases your chances to obtain sponsorship. 5) Once a company notifies either you or the congress secretariat of their intention to sponsor you, you will receive confirmation regarding the sponsorship and the extent of the sponsorship. 6) Please note, that in terms of the Marketing Code of Ethics, trade companies are not allowed to sponsor you directly to any local congress, i.e money cannot be transferred directly into your account to cover your registration and accommodation costs.
