2 INVITATION Dear Friends and Colleagues, It is a great pleasure for us to invite you to participate in the 2nd Biennial Congress of the South African Hypertension Society and the South African Stroke Society to be held from August 2016 in the beautiful Cradle of Humankind, Muldersdrift, Gauteng (Misty Hills). We have developed a comprehensive and exciting scientific program encapsulating topics that will be beneficial to not only specialists and general practitioners, but also to clinical scientists, nurses, pharmacists, and dieticians involved in the treatment and management of cardiovascular disease. This Congress will continue the tradition of our first joint Congress held in Durban in 2014, whilst showcasing the latest developments in hypertension and stroke management and research in South Africa. The meeting will cover the latest and most important issues in the field of hypertension, stroke and cardiovascular related diseases, and several world-renowned experts and doctors will be invited to share their remarkable achievements and findings in a comprehensive range of topics. The Congress will further include a Masterclass on Hypertension for Nurses, Pharmacists and Dieticians, and will feature an additional Expert Session on Lifestyle and Cardiovascular Protection. 5 GENERAL INFORMATION Registration Information The Congress Organizers will confirm all registrations in writing only once full payment has been received. The registration fees are payable in Rands ONLY and will include: *Admission to all scientific sessions for the duration of the congress. Pre-and post congress workshops will incur an additional cost (please see registration form) *Congress bag *Programme, abstract book and other important material *Luncheons and teas *Admission to cocktail function Registration Procedures The registration form must be completed in full. Personal Insurance Please note all delegates are responsible for their own travel insurance, medical insurance and cancellation fees. Language The congress will be conducted in English only. CPD Accreditation The Congress and Pre-Congress Workshops will be CPD accredited. 7 CALL FOR ABSTRACTS The Scientific Committee invites the submission of abstracts for oral and poster presentation Please note the following: The closing date for the submission of abstracts is 31 May 2016 All abstracts must be submitted on-line: Please note that no hardcopy submissions will be accepted, and therefore faxed or posted abstracts will not be processed. All appropriately submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the scientific committee. Authors must indicate their preference for oral and/or poster presentation, but the final decision on the format of presentation rests with the scientific committee. All abstracts received will be acknowledged, and authors will be sent acceptance or rejection letters by 24 June 2016 Important instructions to authors: 1. Each abstract must clearly state the following: Abstracts will not be accepted if the following information is not included in your abstract: 1.1 Title of abstract(not longer than 20 words) 1.2 Name and list of authors. The name of the presenting author must appear first in the list of authors 1.3 Affiliation of authors 1.4 Contact details of presenting author (telephone number, address, etc) 1.5 Preferred format of presentation (oral or poster) 2. Abstracts must be submitted in English, single line spacing. Arial font. 3. The body of the text must not exceed 350 words (this excludes the information listed in point 1.) 4. Where possible, please adhere to the following international accepted format for all abstracts: a) Introduction: should be brief and informative and state the aim of the study b) Methods: include description of subjects and research methodology c) Results: outline the findings of the study supported by statistics as appropriate. Do not use figures, graphs or tables in the abstract. The data provided must be sufficient to permit peer review of the abstract d) Conclusion: provide summary and relevance of the main findings. Posters can be viewed during lunch-time. Electronic Poster Presentation requirements: (a) A poster presentation can be done on Office PowerPoint 2013, 2010 and (b) A poster presentation needs to be done in LANDSCAPE. The screens being used to display the E-Posters on are 21 inch touch screen displays. The screens will be setup in a LANDSCAPE format. (c) A maximum of 5 PowerPoint slides will be allowed. (d) No PDF presentations will be allowed. (e) The E-Posters will be displayed on the screens in a way that delegates of the congress can sit down in front of a screen and browse through the posters at their own leasure.
