1 Welcome to the CFRW Spring Board of Director s/advocacy meeting. Santa Ana, OC, CA What is most important to us, as a Federation? Membership, Leadership, Education, promote a wider knowledge of the principles and policies of the Republican Party? All of the above and more. Let s talk about membership. We lost 5 clubs by the end of January Many were due to the lack of Leadership. No one wants to be on a club board or take on the position of President. Why? We lack Education on what our Leaders responsibilities are. Do we do a thorough and complete job on passing the gavel? Does the incoming President and others get mentored throughout the year? Are we discussing the job duties of the various positions on the board? Are we giving members something to read and review, such as a Leadership Guide and Training Manual? Maybe we need to not schedule a speaker at one of our local club meetings and talk about what it takes to make a local club function. Educate your members should be number one. Do we need to revive the Nuts and Bolts type of meeting to all? We need to look deep into what our clubs are doing, what is working, what isn t. MAKE A CHANGE. CHANGE IS GOOD. It renews your interest, creates new enthusiasm. We need sparks to fly. Put some excitement into your meetings. Have a GOAL. We are a large group of multi-talented women. I know it can be done. You have proven it many times over. Let s get up on our happy feet, and move, make a difference in what you do. Remember you are the Federation of Republican Women and YOU CAN DO IT. Thanks for all you do, but we need more from you. Shirley Mark CFRW President Nam-Yong Horn CFRW Vice President South and Conference Chair

6 CFRW AMBASSADOR PROGRAM EDUCATION - LEGISLATION What Is It? Why You Are Needed? Our current Ambassador s Program has been a work in progress, starting with the founding of the California Federation of Republican Women in Women in California have been working campaigns, teaching Americanism and English to immigrant families and holding political seminars. In 1971, then President, Elsa Sandstrom began the education of CFRW members on the issues in the capitol. In 1974 our first Legislative Advocate, Nancy Ehlers, was appointed and the first annual Advocacy Workshop was held. This was encouraged by Ronald Reagan. Ms. Ehlers was a full-time volunteer Lobbyist representing CFRW in Sacramento. She published a monthly legislative newsletter, Canvassing the Capitol, and an Action Alert Hot Line which supported Federation positions on legislation. In 1978 the Legislative Advocate s Sacramento Office Fund (LASOF) was created, to allow CFRW to maintain and operate an office in the capital city. Later on, in 1981, the membership voted to designate a $2 dues increase to go toward the Advocacy program to ensure a stable source of funding. Over the years the program and the office has grown in size and responsibilities as well as in the cost of doing business. In 2011 the membership voted to designate a $1 dues increase to go toward the Advocacy program to further ensure a stable source of funding. The Ambassadors Program was established as an integral part of the funding mechanism to maintain the Sacramento Office for our Legislative Advocate. Our current full-time salaried Legislative Advocate is Allison Olson. She has provided us with a tremendous amount of useful information and mentored our members with social media communication skills. Historically, the Ambassadors Program has been funded by a small group of CFRW members who paid $ per year and were thanked for their generous contribution to the program at three receptions a year. On February 3rd and 4th 2006, the Membership approved a change to the Standing Rules to allow for a four -tier program. Subsequently there will be a Platinum Ambassador level with dues of $500 per year; a Golden Eagle Ambassador level with dues of $250 per year; a Golden Bear Ambassador level with dues of $100 per year and an Ambassador level with dues of $50 per year. This is meant to allow smaller unit clubs as well as more membership participation in support of the core of our organization, the Legislative Advocate s Office in Sacramento. As in the past, there will be perks for those who choose to join the Ambassador s Program; the level of participation will determine what these will be. The Platinum Ambassador Club and Golden Eagle Ambassadors will be recognized on CFRW programs; preferred seating at conferences; an engraved name badge and free admission to all Ambassador Receptions. The Golden Bear Ambassadors and Ambassadors will receive identifying name badges; recognition on CFRW programs and will be able to attend Ambassador s Receptions at a reduced rate. Husbands that are associate members may join. WE NEED EVERYBODY S HELP!!!! If you desire to help with financial support in educating our membership on current legislation, as well as promoting a better understanding of our legislative process, now is the time. Take a minute to fill out the application attached and send it with your check for the level with which you re comfortable. We invite everyone to participate and watch your investment in our future grow! *Note: All levels of donor support will have the option of receiving the State Bulletin and Capitol Update. See back page for sign-up
