1 Grade Domain Topics We have holidays to celebrate our country: Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Martin Luther King Day, President s Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day We use symbols to show how proud we are to be Americans: state and national flags, bald eagle, Statue of Liberty, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, White House, Pledge of Allegiance, Star Spangled Banner We use words to talk about history: Now/Long Ago, Before/After, Morning/Afternoon/Night, Today/Tomorrow/Yesterday, First/Last/Next, Day/Week/Month/Year, Past/Present/Future K It is important to be a good citizen: how and why rules are made; why rules should be followed I can learn about good character from stories: honesty, patriotism, loyalty, courtesy, respect, truth, pride, self-control, moderation, accomplishment Place names where I live: street address, city, county, state, country, continent Maps help us learn about places: land/water features on maps and globes, how a map or globe shows us what our world looks like Our country and community are diverse and we have different customs and celebrations People do different work in the community: police officer, fire fighter, soldier, mail carrier, baker, farmer, doctor, teacher People who work get money for the work they do Money is used to buy goods and services: difference between goods and services, identify money (bills and coins) No one has as much money as they want, so they must make choices about how to spend the money they have
