A: Both the influential personalities in China Sun Yat sen and Mao were well educated. Post New Democracy era chinese universalised education. In Vietnam students fought against the colonial government through News papers and political parties. Ho Chi Min was also well educated. The role of students and educated youth is invaluable in Nigerian liberation movement. 9. Suggest a few measures for better Democracy and Ethical governance? A: People should not take any money from the parties. All voters should go to polling booth and cast their vote. Those who can serve better should be elected. No consideration of caste or religion. In every village or street the voters should decide whom to be voted. 10. What was the Civilizing Mission of colonisers. Mention any two steps taken by the French under this? A: Like the British in India, The French claimed that they were bringing modern civilisation to the vietnamese. They were of the opinion that Europe had developed the most advanced civilization. So it became the duty of the Europeans to introduce modern ideas in their colonies. a) They introduced modern education b) Tonkin Free schools were opened to provide modern education. The real motive behind this mission was to exploit the natural and human resources of vietnam. 11. What is one important aspect of the social engineering. What was the reason for this? A: One important aspect of the social engineering is the problem of the right of minorities. The sad experience of suppression of jewish minority in Nazi Germany weighed in the minds of the constitution makers. They decided to give special protection to the minority community so that they don t feel marginalised by the majority. 12. Estimate the role of Election commission in India? A: Election commission is an autonomous Constitutional body came in to existence in It prepares electoral rolls and conduct elections for the country. The chief election commissioner and the two Election commissioners play a crucial role from announcement of the elections and the declaration of its results. It concentrates on the code of conduct and observes the malpractices with the help of IAS officers.
7 13. What characteristics of Pastor Niemoller do you like? A: Friedrich Gustav Emil Martin Niemoller was a protestant pastor and social activist. He criticised the cowardice of German intellectuals following the Nazis rise to power and the subsequent purging of their chosen targets group after group He worked for the formation of pastor s emergency league against Hitler and opposed the religious policies of Hitler. I like him because even though he was a pastor, he was a social activist carried many movements and arrested with his intimacy with the people SECTION III 14. Compare different points of view about great depression which one would you agree with? why? A: Great Depression lasted between It was triggered by decline in demand and fall of prices. Marxist Economist argued that it was because of capitalism and can be got rid of only with socialism. Economist J.M. Keynes argued state shall Play a crucial role and intervene effectively. During decline state shall invest and generate employment and help people to earn money and demand goods in market. I would agree with it as it is result oriented. Q: Integration of various Princely states into the new Indian nation was a challenging task. Discuss. A: At the time of withdrawal of British from India, there was around 550 princely states in Indian territory. They became Independent after the British rule. They were asked by the British to decide, if they wanted to Join India, Pakistan or remain Independent. In Hyderabad and Travancore Peasants were revolting with arms against the ruling zamindars. Sardar Vallabhai Patel was given charge of this matter of merging princely states in to Indian Union in July He began discussing with princes the necessity to Join India. All Princely states agreed to Join Indian Union except Kashmir, Hyderabad and Junagadh. In Hyderabad and Junagadh the rulers were Muslims and Majority of Population were Hindus, rulers want to Join Pakistan, People want to Join India a conflict. In Kashmir the ruler was a Hindu and Majority population were Muslims, so a difficulty in consensus. Thus it was difficult, but three states were also made to Join in the next two years. Junagadh was merged after receiving a letter from the ruler. Kashmir was merged after receiving a letter from the ruler. But Hyderabad was merged after a police action. With great efforts of patel, this challenging task was completed by merging these states.
8 15. In what ways were Jews persecuted during the Nazi Germany? Do you think in every country some people are differentiated because of their identity? A: Hitler and his Nazis targeted the minorities like jews as the main cause of all the Problems. Hitler attacked communism and capitalism as the conspiracies of the Jews. Immediately after coming to power Hitler arrested all types of opponents especially Jews and putting them in the concentration camps. Millions of Jews were caught as slaves and subjected to horror and fear. Under the Shadow of Second world war, Germany had a genocidal war which resulted mass murder of innocent Jews of 60 Millions. The Nazis killed them by gassing them in killing centres like Auschwitz. Racial discrimination: I don t think that this type of differentiation exists in all the countries. But there are some examples in this regard. We saw the apartheid in South Africa by whites against blacks. Nelson Mandela fought against it and established the first Black regime in South Africa. In U.S we heard about discrimination on Blacks Martin Luther king fought and succeeded against this. In our country though the country is ours, we were discriminated by the whites under their rule. We faced a lot of troubles. Q: Why does the oil spillage from oil wells have a major impact on the ecosystem? A: Oil spillage from Oil wells a major impact on the ecosystem. Large tracts of the Mangrove forests, which are especially susceptible on oil because it stored in the soil and released annually with inundation have been destroyed. An estimated 5 10% of Nigerian ecosystems have been wiped out either by clearing or oil. Spills destroy crops and aquaculture through contamination of the ground water and soils. Drinking water is also frequently contaminated and a sheen oil is visible in many areas of water. If the drinking water is contaminated, even if no immediate health effects are apparent, it can cause in long term cancer. Offshore Spills which are usually much greater in scale, contaminated coastal environment and cause a decline in local fish production. 16. Read the following Paragraph and interpret. The Soldiers of INA were imprisoned and the British decided to punish them. A trial of INA soldiers was begun. The British decided to court martial them for being traitors to the army and hanging them to death in punishment. A: The given paragraph deals with three areas Imprisonment of INA soldiers is the main one. The British decided to send the soldiers to court martial. They were treated as cheaters by the British. The issue put for discussion is that whether the INA soldiers are to be treated as traitors or not. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose succeeded in Indian civil services and gave up it for the sake of participating in the freedom struggle. He came out from Indian National Congress and established INA to fight against the British. Bose wanted to take help from Japan and Germany to fight against the British.
9 In view of the Britishers, the soldiers of INA were traitors to them. But in view of the Indians they were patriots. The British decided to send them to court Martial and punish. As an Indian I say that the soldiers would be felicitated, not punished. They Sacrificed their lives for the sake of Indian freedom. It was brutal and cruel to hang the freedom fighters. In conclusion I say what the British had done was wrong. They wanted to continue their rule in India. If they allowed, they would leave India and so they lose a lot. Now a days it is wrong. I strongly say that the soldiers of INA are to be given respect. Their commemoration is also to be conducted. We should not forget their service and we pay tribute to them by serving the Nation in a right way. Every citizen should work hard to make the Nation great and strong. Q: Read the paragraph under the need of Electoral reforms and comment. India is the second most populous country in the world. It is a magnum opus task to conduct elections in our country. Every Political party promises to give good governance, Socio Economic equality and the eradication of poverty. But few corrupted politicians those who have criminal back ground adopt illegal practices to manage the voters. These Practices are making fun of the democracy. A: The given paragraph says that it is not so easy to conduct elections in such a vast country like India because of its over population. Corrupted and criminal political leaders are elected by the voters some time. These practices make fun of the democracy. The given Paragraph emphasizes the need of electoral reforms. The government has to bring more changes with regard to eligibility of the candidates fulfilling the assurances given the manifesto. Some People argue that minimum educational qualification is essential for the contesting candidates. If the criminal go to Parliament what will they do there. The Political Parties, in their manifestos, assure people with some guarantees.if they do not fulfill in their tenure they should be prosecuted and a case is to be field against them and it is treated as cheating the voters. I also agree that minimum education is necessary for the candidate. Candidates with criminal background should not be allowed to go for contesting. Parties also do not consider the caste, religion, monetary status that is whether rich or poor while issuing the party ticket and they should consider how best they render services for the people and what is their record of services in the society. By Keeping all this in mind, I would say the reforms in the election process are necessary. 17. Locate the following in a world map given A: A) 1. Taiwan 2. Nigeria 3. China 4.
