1 THE SIXTY-SIXTH STUDENT SENATE The Journal: April 2, 2014 The meeting of the 66 th Student Senate was called to order at 7:40 p.m. by Student Senate President Lindsay Wood. Senator Butler led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Student Comments: Kerr Ballenger of GAU Spear the Fees Rally told the Senate that as TAs, they teach all the students and do not get paid much. He announced that they are having a rally on Monday, April 4, and they will march to the Capitol. Natalia Melo of Global Peace Exchange asked the Senate to support their request for funds to travel to a conference to discuss problems affecting the country. Special Introductions and Announcements: None. Messages from the Executive Branch: Gerald Johnson, Student Body Vice President, told the Senate that they are interviewing candidates for SGA agencies and the deadline has been extended until Friday. He asked the Senate to support their forwardings of three Senators coming through tonight. Messages from Agency and Bureau Directors, SGA Organizations Officers and Employees: Jarryd Boyd, Pride Assistant Director, announced that they are having the Prom tomorrow in the Union ballrooms, and on April 12, they will celebrate Tallahassee Pride. Katrina Pitt, AASU Assistant Director, said that they are still celebrating their heritage month and their closing will be at the end of the month with Miss America. Jean Tabares thanked everyone for coming to True Seminole Award ceremony. He said it was a great turnout for FSU Day at the Capitol. Harold Scott, BSU President, asked the Senate to support Bill 25 and Resolution 29 tonight. Senator Butler announced that TLI

2 is having their end of the year banquet on April 8. He thanked everyone that worked with them. There was a motion to unlock the Calendar and hear the results of the BSU elections; the motion passed results were heard. There was a motion to go into Rules and Calendar of the Whole; the motion passed. The committee interviewed and passed John Emanuello for Graduate Studies Senator Seat 6 Spring, James Baughman for Arts and Sciences Senator Seat 10 Spring, Jadesola Arowolo for Human Sciences Senator Seat 2 Spring, Nicole Smith for Pow Wow Director (passed with one abstention) and Douglas Roberts for Parliamentarian. During this time the Senate President presented to Senator Emanuello the Senate Ethics Award. Messages from the Congress of Graduate Students: None. Messages from the Judicial Branch: None. Report of the SGA Accounting Office: As of April 2, 2014, Senate Projects has $48, Remaining balances: RTAC has $(-1,189.28) and PAC has $22, Report of Committees: Student Affairs - The committee elected Amy Nicotra as Chair and Jesse Marks as Vice Chair. The committee will meet on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Senate Office. Budget - The committee elected Andrew Forst as Chair and Evan Roman as Vice Chair. The committee will meet on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Senate Office. Internal Affairs - The committee elected John Emanuello as Chair and Iyanna Pierre-Louis as Vice Chair. The committee did not set a meeting time. Judiciary - The committee elected Derek Silver as Chair and Katie Schulze as Vice Chair. The committee will meet 7 p.m. on Thursdays. Finance - The committee elected Leah Montenegro as

3 Chair and Josh Yagur as Vice Chair. The committee will meet 7 p.m. on Tuesdays in the Senate office.. Rules and Calendar - The committee meets before Senate. A revision to the Student Body Statutes Chapters and Purpose: to add gender identity and gender expression and define gender neutrality. REFERRED TO JUDICIARY. Bill 27 Sponsored by Senators Nicotra, Holland, Brown, Brune, Engelbrecht. An allocation of $2,600 from Senate Projects to Dean of Students. Purpose: to restock the Food Pantry on campus. A revision to the Student Body Statutes Chapters 800, 801.5, 802.3, 802.5, , Purpose: to revise the Finance Code. REFERRED TO FINANCE. Bill 29 Sponsored by Senator Forst. An allocation of $1,200 from Senate Projects to Senior Class Council. Purpose: to provide funds for Taking Back Suwannee, to give meals for Seniors one last time at Suwanee Dining Hall. 4 Bills Second Reading: Bill 22 Sponsored by Senator Forst. A revision of $2,000 within the Hispanic Latino Student Union from Contractual Services to Expense. Purpose: to rent the ballrooms at Mission San Luis for their end of the year gala on April 18, PASSED YES-40, NO-0, ABSTAINED-0. Bill 23 Sponsored by Senators Jones, Lucas and Leroy. An allocation of $10,000 from Senate Projects to RTAC. Purpose: to replenish RTAC funds for the remainder of the semester. PASSED YES-40, NO-0, ABSTAINED-1. Bill 24 Sponsored by Senator Marks and Barth. An allocation of $ from Senate Projects to Center for Global Engagement. Purpose: to pay for four (4) International Coffee Hour events. Resolutions: Resolution 29 - Sponsored by Senator Butler Subject: Giving the Black Student Union permission to spend over $2,000 for an event and have the even off campus at the Moon. PASSED YES-41, NO-0 AND ABSTAINED-0. Resolution 30 - Sponsored by Senator Munoz. Subject: Discontent with the FSU new logo. REFERRED TO RULES AND CALENDAR. Unfinished Business: None. New Business: Senator Baughman moved to override the veto of Bill 15. The motion passed and the veto was overridden by a two-third vote of the Senate. The motion to reconsider passed with one objection. The vote to override was yes-41, no-0 and abastained-0. Closing Announcements: Senator Whitter said that she was concerned with how voting was conducted tonight and she has issues with the process and do not feel that it was ethical. Senate President Wood said that she is re-appointing all of the ad hoc committees and asked the Senators to fill out the new appointment sheets and turn them into her.
