Glenn Wolf, Jr. N5RN SECRETARY/TREASURER ADXA MEETING MINUTES T he rd quarter meeting of the ADXA was held on 17 September 2005 at the Avery Pavilion at Blakely Dam. Those that signed the sign-in sheet included the following members: Glenn Wolf, N5RN, Earl Smith, N5ZM, Pat Patterson, W5VY, Bill Harper, K9IW, Paul Wynne, AF5M, Myrtle Wynne, N500I, Ollie Gade, W5GO, Lenny Mendel, K5OVC, Jim Ballew, N5ZIV, Dave Jacques, K5DV, Libby Jacques, WB6AXD, and Rick Harris, AI5P. The following guests also signed in: Norma Mendel, KC5DDO, Michelle Ballew, and Bill Gade, Ollie s #1 son. There was no Executive Board meeting, The meeting was called to order at 1:32 P.M. by President Earl Smith, N5ZM. Ollie Gade introduced his number one son Bill Gade and Michelle Ballew was also introduced. Earl thanked K5DV for the outstanding job he did as cook. Earl also thanked the Hot Springs group for the work they did to get the site and prepare it for the meeting. Health and Welfare: N5ZM announced that W5EFA, Frank Kollatt, Sr. had become a SK. Melissa Schaefer was doing OK from her heart by-pass surgery but was having blood clot problems. Old Business: Earl asked that the minutes from the previous meeting be read. A motion from K5DV and seconded by AF5M was made requesting that we dispense with the reading of the minutes. The motion carried. N5RN gave the Treasurer s report. After the report was given, a motion was made to approve the Treasurer s report. The motion was seconded and passed. ADXA WEB PAGE N5RN was working on getting a new site (free) for the ADXA website. It was suggested that we look at QTH.com. (Editors note: a site has been found and work has begun

2 The ADXA Quarterly Page 2 on updating the site). New Business: The fourth quarter meeting will be December 3rd in Little Rock. A suggestion was made to consider using an employee s meeting room for the business part of the meeting and then travel to a local restaurant for the meal. Possibly Ryan s. There were no new members to present. No new solicitations for DXpedition support. Nothing from the floor. Nominating committee presented a slate of officers for the term. The slate of officers presented was the officers now serving their 2005 term. K5DV made the motion to accept this slate of officers. W5GO seconded. The slate of officers was approved unanimously. The hat was passed to help defray expenses. K5DV made a motion to adjourn. W5GO seconded. Motion approved unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 1:50 P.M. The address is 1 Cooperative Way Little Rock, AR We will begin gathering for the meeting about 12:00. The meeting will begin at 1:00 with AI5P as the guest speaker. After the meeting, we will have dinner at Ryan s on Baseline. If you have cards that you need/ want to check, please let Earl know in advance by either a phone call or an (N5ZM@ARRL.NET).

3 The ADXA Quarterly Page 3 Words of Wisdom from the President Earl Smith, N5ZM Also Head honcho in charge of the Samples Kontest Klub Well here it is time for the 4 th Quarter ADXA Meeting. It does creep up on you fast. I hope everyone has been able to work the ones they needed. Please invite someone that has an interest in DXing or contesting to one of our meetings. We would enjoy meeting them. Well it is now upon me I am retired. As of last Friday, 18 November I am no longer in the work force. So far I cannot tell any difference in the day-to-day happenings. But will be looking for that first Government check in January. With the Holidays and all I will be busy. Next month I will be going to Pensacola to W5AA's place and swap out the Hurricane Ivan destroyed antennas with a new Force 12 XR5. Dick passed away 2 years ago but his wife Jo Ann, N5FBW, still stays in contact daily with her sons in Costa Rica and Panama. Myself and George, N5GH, from Jackson, MS will get Jo Ann back on the air with a beam instead of the dipole she has been using. As far as what has been going on here radio wise I now have 10 confirmed on 6 Meters. My first reward of being retired came when I worked Z24S for a new one on CW, number 329. Then two days later worked him on 40 CW for a new band country. Looks like this retirement might be a good thing after all. I hope to see everyone for the 4 th Quarter meeting in Little Rock on the 3 rd. Rick, AI5P, will have a great program for us, touring the South Pacific and other Exotic places.
