1 ADIRONDACK NCRS CHAPTER OFFICERS LIEF LARSEN Chairman JIM WEIR Vice Chairman First Quarter 2016 MIKE WILSON Treasurer TOM & ANNE FLOWERS Secretary BRIAN CANTELE Judging Chairman 217 1st Street Scotia, NY (518) Hello to all the Adirondack Chapter members and I hope everyone survived the Holiday Season and is wintering well. We ve had a shockingly mild winter and I for one have enjoyed that. To bring everyone up to date we had our Holiday Party on January 10th which was well attended. We ve had several General Membership meetings so far which are held on the 2nd Monday of the month at Scarborough s restaurant and if you haven t attended these I invite you to do so. The more people we have involved the better it is for everyone. And we had our first Tech Session of the year on February 21st which was, again, well attended. On the National front, the National Convention will be held in Warwick RI on July 17th July 21. If you are planning on attending you must register on line at the NCRS website. The National Judging Retreat is coming up in Dallas TX in a few weeks and I will be attending this and will follow up with a report for the next newsletter. There is a new judging matrix for judging paint being rolled out after the Convention and perhaps our Judging Chairman will be talking about this. Finally, I have forwarded to our membership notes and letters regarding Gary Mortimer and his retirement from the National position he has held. If you have any questions regarding this, I would suggest you contact the Region 1 Director Mark Tulley. Looking to the future we are working on the next tech session which we are hoping to do in March sometime. Stand by for more details regarding this. A reminder that our Judging Meet is on May 21st with the judging school the night before. Please get you registrations in early for this as well. We already have one car registered and will need judges. Also, if you haven t already done so please forward your dues to John Dergosits as soon as possible. Hopefully the winter will come to an early end and we will be able to get our corvettes out of their jammies and onto the roads where they belong. Hope to see you at one of our functions soon. 2 VICE CHAIRMAN Jim Weir Hello to all, this winter has been a little a cooler than usual but Anne and I are surviving. To start, I attended the Florida chapter meet in Lakeland Florida in January. The weather was cool but it was a great meet. Approximately fifty (50) cars were judged on Friday and Saturday. They also had one of Harley J. Earl corvettes on display that brought much interest. Note: the blue line tires. The swap meet had many more vendors than last year. I was glad to see that the Florida chapter finally has an inside venue. I had watched for many years the judges working in the rain to judge the cars. All in all, it was a good judging meet and I am looking forward to next year. The next day my friend and I traveled to the Mecum Auction to meet up with Mike Wilson and we spent the day with him. Mike was waiting to bid on a motorcycle which went for a much higher price than he thought it would. Mecum Auction is always interesting even if you are not buying or selling. In just over a month we will be heading home and I can't wait to get my car ready for the warm weather. To all our members, now is the time to register for the National meet. Lief and I have already done so if anyone would like to join us. That's all for now and see you all soon. Jim Weir Vice Chairman 2 P a g e
3 3 P a g e JUDGING CHAIRMAN - Brian Cantele NCRS Judging Quiz: When using the NCRS Judging Matrix to evaluate an item, what do the letters CDCIF stand for? (Answer is at the end of the newsletter) MEMBERSHIP CHAIRMAN - John Dergosits No report. TECH SESSION NOTES - Lief Larsen February 21st we had our first Tech session of the year at Mike Wilson's garage in Castleton. There was a demonstration on installing a set of C-2 ball joints into lower control arms and the steps leading to rebuilding the control arms. In addition, we are looking into restoring Bill Tobler s 1967 hardtop shown below. 3 P a g e

5 ACTIVITIES CHAIRMAN Michael Kalogridis A Tech session was held at Mike Wilson's garage Sunday, February 21st. A C-2 removable top was assessed for restoration and a demonstration for how ball joints are pressed into control arms took place. About 12 members and guests participated. The monthly Chapter meeting took place at Scarborough's Restaurant Monday, March 14th. Another Tech session was held Saturday, March 25th at Bill Meese's garage. A C-2 fuel tank was removed in order to get at the build sheet attached to the top of the tank. It was intriguing to watch the sheet get dusted off and carefully removed from the gas tank. Other than a few broken bolts and skinned knuckles the paper was removed clean and completely intact. Next Chapter meeting Monday, April 11th 6:00 pm at Scarboroughs Please mark your calendars for this year's NCRS Adirondack Chapter Judging meet for May 20th and May 21st 2016 at George's Collision in Cohoes. Old Business: Lief Larsen noted that there have been discussions about if the Chapter should continue to be a sponsor at the monthly Guptill's Cruise Ins for 2016 (June, July, August and September). John Dergosits noted that the Chapter expended $300 in 2015 for the sponsorship and that only one new membership had resulted from those efforts. Steve Wittek stated that the sponsorship cost too much money. Mike Wilson stated that the cruise ins are dependent on the weather. Tom Flowers noted that flyers could be handed out to corvette owners at Guptill's without being a cruise-in sponsor. John Dergosits made a motion to suspend being a sponsor at Guptill's Cruise Ins, but members could still attend and pass out flyers and Bill Schroeder seconded the motion. All were in favor, none opposed and the motion carried. New Business: Lief Larsen noted that there have been some questions about if the Chapter should continue to use the chit system for their participation in Chapter activities. Steve Wittek noted that the chit system was created to encourage members to get involved in the Chapter activities, to thank members who participate in Chapter activities so the Chapter can get a Top Flight Award and that he would like to see the chit system continue. Bill Meess and Bill Schroeder agree with continuing the chit system. John Dergosits is concerned about the expense to the Chapter for supporting the chit system and suggested that a review should be done on how chits are calculated. Lief Larsen noted that this 7 P a g e
8 topic needs more discussion and review. Lief Larsen will put some thoughts together on the topic and create a committee to review the chit system.
