1 GEORGIA COMMUNICATOR December 2017 Volume 43 Issue 2 President s Points We are almost seven months into the GA JCI Senate year. The first half of this Senate year has been a busy one for our team. During the past seven months, I had the privilege of presenting Senatorships to Thomas Perkins #76074, Steve Walker #76075 and Thomas Michael # Congratulations to each of you on this much deserved honor. Welcome to the Ga JCI Senate family. Thank You to everyone who joined us in Swainsboro for our First Trimester meeting. It was quite an interesting weekend with the Georgia Jaycees. The cabins, rain, mud, and animals were quite enjoyable. I hope everyone had as much fun as I had. Thank you to the Georgia Jaycees for their hospitality. Over the past several months, I travelled across the United States and all states within Region IV. August took me to Clemmons North Carolina and the North Carolina Jaycees / North Carolina JCI Senate Meeting. Thank You to NC JCI Senate President Jennifer E. Salmon #71393 and her team for the excellent hospitality shown to me over during the weekend. September included a trip to the USJCI Senate Fall Board of Directors meeting in Pasco Washington. The long weekend included trips through three states, a nuclear reactor and a haunted forest. The following weekend took me to Guntersville Alabama and the Ala JCI Senate / Bama Brigade meeting. Thank you to Ala JCI Senate President Mattie Tooter Gray for the hospitality during the weekend. October included a trip to St. Augustine Florida and the Florida Bash. Thank you to Fla JCI Senate President Bill Hossman for the fine hospitality. The next weekend took me to Warner Robins Ga and the Warner Robins Jaycees Reunion. I truly enjoyed getting together with Jaycee friends from Region 9. The weekend before Thanksgiving took me to South Carolina for the South Carolina Jaycees / SC JCI Senate weekend. Thank you to SC JCI Senate President Janet Paccione #59585 for the hospitality given to me. The highlight of the past several months had to be the Peach Bash / Region IV JCI Senate Fall Meeting. More than fifty Senators from throughout Region IV, the United States and Canada joined us for a great weekend in Newnan Georgia. We were proud to be joined by USJCI Senate Admin VP Pete Reinecker #11777 and Secretary Mike Andrews # Words cannot express how proud I was of each and every Georgia JCI Senator who planned, executed and attended the Peach Bash. You set a VERY HIGH standard for future Region IV meetings. I would like to name every Senator who helped make the weekend so successful, but I would probably leave someone out. In the month of January, our midyear meeting / weekend will be held January 12 14, 2018, in Milledgeville Georgia. We will be joining with the Georgia Jaycees for their Year End Meeting. The host hotel is the Holiday Inn and Suites, 2600 N. Columbia Street, Milledgeville Ga (478) Room Rates are $93 per night (Jaycee Rate). Registration for the Jaycee activities for the weekend is $50 registration information is located on the Ga JCI Senate Facebook page. I encourage everyone to help the Ga Jaycees by registering for the weekend. In closing, I would like to wish each of you a Very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year. 2 From the Chairman of the Board Hello all Senators, It was so good to see many of you at the Georgia Peach Bash in November. We had a great turnout and everyone seemed to have a really good time! It was also nice seeing several of you at the annual Senate Christmas party. That is always fun. We have a couple of things coming up in January that you need to mark your calendar for: First, is our Mid-Year meeting that will be held in conjunction with the Georgia Jaycees meeting in Milledgeville, GA. Below is a link that you can register with the Jaycees. Right now tickets for the meeting are $50 per person and they go up to $75 after January 1 st. So be sure to get registered today! The host hotel will be the Holiday Inn & Suites in Milledgeville room rates are $93 ask for the Jaycee rate. The link for tickets is e/2018-georgia-jaycees-state-convention-tickets Lastly, the National Mid-year Senate meeting will be held January 12-14, 2018 in St. Augustine, Florida. This is the closet National meeting we have had in a while and St. Augustine is a beautiful place to visit. 3 Vice President s Notes From the office of the VP My fellow Senator's, The holidays are upon us. Please put aside some money for our reverse raffle. This is our only big fundraiser. At the January meeting, I will have reverse raffle tickets to sell as well as our 50/50 raffle. If you would like for me to mail you out some tickets or you know someone who you think will buy tickets, me their home address and I will send them out. 4 From the Desk of the Treasurer Fellow Senators, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing me to serve as your Treasurer. I encourage you to continue to pay your dues and support our fundraisers so we will continue to have the funds to run this organization. The Bylaws Committee has submitted four bylaw changes to be voted on at the Senate Meeting in Milledgeville in January. The proposed changes are included in this newsletter. 7 Bylaw Changes ARTICLE II - DUES Section 1: The annual dues for members shall be the amount as determined from time to time, not to exceed one per annum, by a majority vote of the membership present. Inactive fees shall be for national dues and state mailings only, with no state voting rights or privileges. Inactive members are not considered members in good standing. Dues for the coming year shall be due on the anniversary date. These fees shall include all dues payable to the national organization. ARTICLE VI - ELIGIBILTY FOR ELECTED OFFICE Section 3: Candidates for elected office in the Georgia JCI Senate must make a formal announcement in writing to the Chairman of the Board of the Georgia JCI Senate. Announcements for President, Administrative Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer must be received by the Chairman of the Board of the Georgia JCI Senate 40 7 days prior to the day the election is held. ARTICLE XII - AMENDMENTS Section 1: These Bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the members present at any regular or special meeting, provided notice of the meeting and amendment was given to each active Senator at least ten (10) days prior to the meeting. Notification can be made via the Communicator newsletter by either regular mail or . Bylaw changes will become effective immediately upon approval of the body. Section 2: All proposed bylaw revisions must be mailed to the membership at least ten (10) days prior to the meeting at which said revisions will be voted upon. A Policy Manual will be maintained by the Secretary. It shall consist of all motions and policies of the Georgia JCI Senate. The manual will govern all activities not covered by our Bylaws and shall be considered binding. Any portions of the Policy Manual may be changed by a motion duly passed by this body at any regular or called meeting.
