2 Committee Meeting Minutes TRSM Tanks, Reservoirs, & Structures Maintenance Committee Operations and Maintenance Division CA-NV Section AWWA Minutes of Meeting held: Monday, October 8, 2012, 1:00pm Town & Country Resort, San Diego, CA In Attendance: Graham Bell (Chair) Pat Sweeney (Vice Chair) Joanna Rembis (Secretary) Attending Members (See attached sign-in sheet) Next Meeting: March 25, 2013 Cohiba 4 Conference Room, Tropicana Las Vegas, NV Administrative Graham Bell called the meeting to order at 1:00pm. The meeting agenda and packet was handed out and introductions were completed. A sign-in sheet was distributed. The rules for being a committee member were reviewed: anyone that has attended two consecutive committee meetings becomes a member of the committee, and anyone that does not attend two consecutive committee meetings is removed from membership. TRSM committee is having open enrollment due to the merge of the Corrosion Control Committee into the TRSM committee at the 2012 Spring Conference. Anyone interested in joining the TRSM committee shall indicate on the attendance sheet. Tom Bloomer passed around an official sign-in sheet from O&M division. The minutes from the Spring 2012 Conference committee meeting in Santa Clara, CA were reviewed and approved. Reviewed the Wednesday afternoon Conference program and Graham Bell may fill in on the panel discussion if there is a no show. 3 Graham Bell notified the committee that he will be resigning as Chair. Pat Sweeney would take over the chair position. Joanna Rembis requested to stay in the secretary position. Paul Trautmann was nominated and approved as Vice Chair. Message from the Division Tom Bloomer provided a report from the O&M Division. The common thread for this conference from Division is for the committees to be happy and healthy. The division is challenging the committees to come up with different ideas on how to branch out as they understand there are other organizations competing. Use the toolbox on the AWWA website for new ideas. There is a leadership guide on the Website on how to run on the committees. The committee discussed the idea of coming up with a pocket book as a quick reference guide for Tank maintenance such as dissimilar metals, disinfection procedures, cathodic protection, etc. Status Reports Past committee meetings provided informational updates on AWWA D100, AWWA D102, AWWA D103, AWWA D104, AWWA D110, ACI 350, NSF 61, Zinc as a heavy metal in California and Coal Tar Enamel. The committee agreed to remove NSF 61, Zinc as a heavy metal, and Coal Tar Enamel from the list of topics to report new information on as these items are no longer issues within the industry. The remaining topics had no new information to be relayed to the committee. Future Presentations Some abstracts have been submitted, and the process for officially submitting an abstract was discussed, including submittals online. The deadline for abstracts is October 29. The theme of the Spring Conference is Sustainability in a Time of Change. The topics or abstracts submitted to date were as follows: 1 Jack Ripley, Corrpro Companies, Inc. - The paper would be "Latest Advances for Cathodic Protection of Above Ground Storage Tank Bottoms. 2 Mike Bartkus, Utility Services Company, Inc. - The paper would be "Trihalomethane Removal System/Tanks O&M". 3 Peter S. Fiske, Pax Water Technologies, Inc. - The paper would be "Improving Chloramine Disinfectant Levels in the Distribution System: Combined Results from Mixing and Residual Boosting in Tanks". 4 Daniel J. McCarthy, Preload Inc. - The paper would be "Wire-Wrapped Tanks: A 70 Year History of Sustainability". 5 Stephen W Meier, P.E., S.E., Tank Industry Consultants - The paper would be "Seismic Retrofits of a Water Storage Tank: Foundation Replacement". 4 6 Michael L. Doolittle, Tank Industry Consultants. - The paper would be "What is Expected Coating Life for a Water Tank?". Election of Officers Paul Trautmann was nominated and approved elected as Vice-Chair New Business AWWA book are available to buy. They are looking to collages to build their water programs and bring in new members to the committees. Committees can select which unsolicited abstracts they would like and then coordinate with Dale and Jessica. The identified talks for the committee go into a google document. If two committees select the same topic then the topic may go to whoever choose first or the presenter may choose.
