2 Registration Process The candidate filing period for the November 8, 2016 General Election commences on Monday, July 18 through Friday, August 12. If a declaration of candidacy for an incumbent is not filed by the August 12 deadline, the filing period will be extended from Saturday, August 13 through Wednesday, August 17. The extension period does not apply when there is no incumbent up for re-election, or when the office is listed as "Vacant or for WATER AGENCY DISTRICTS. Note: The office will be closed Saturday, August 13 and Sunday, August 14. During the candidate filing period, a candidate must sign and submit a Candidate Registration and Qualification (CRQ) form. It is the candidate's responsibility to sign and submit a completed CRQ form to the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk. The CRQ provides the information necessary for the to confirm the candidate's qualification status and prepare the official Nomination Documents. The CRQ is not an official candidate nomination document. To expedite the registration and qualification process, a candidate may provide the necessary information to the Registrar by filling out and transmitting the "Online Candidate Registration and Qualification Form (CRQ) on or before the final filing deadline established by law. Also a blank form may be obtained for this purpose at the Registrar's Office. Only official documents issued by the may be used. Forms are available from the s Office at E. Imperial Highway, Norwalk, 2 nd Floor, Room 2013 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. This office will process the transmitted CRQ form within 48 hours (excluding weekends/holidays). All candidates bear the full responsibility to execute and file official filing documents prepared and issued by this office no later than the legal filing deadline established by law. If for any reason the CRQ form is not accepted or does not qualify you for the office chosen, you will be notified by telephone or by return within 48 hours (excluding weekends/holidays) and provided with the reason for not accepting the form. 3 Important Facts All official candidate filing documents (Declaration of Candidacy, Candidate Statement of Qualification, Transliteration and campaign reporting forms) must contain "original signatures" and received in this office by the legal filing deadlines. Faxed copies are not acceptable. This office cannot provide official filing documents any earlier than the first day established by state law, or legally accept any official filing documents sent by U.S. Mail after 5 p.m. on the filing deadline. This is to ensure timely filing of nomination documents and safeguard against any misunderstanding that submission of the Candidate Registration and Qualification form completes the filing process. 4 Getting Started Step 1 Check the Candidate Qualification and Filing Schedule for the office title and requirements and filing dates/deadlines. Step 2 You may execute and submit your Candidate Registration and Qualification Form in one of four ways: Internet transmission - This office will process the CRQ form within 48 hours (excluding weekends/holidays). Deadline to transmit is August 11, at 12 noon. A. Documents will be prepared in advance, and ready for pickup and/or filing in the Election Information Section, 2 nd floor, Room 2013, Or you may request all nomination documents via mail by selecting Request to Receive documents by mail on the "Online Candidate Registration and Qualification Form". (Also see Telephone Request below.) B. All candidates bear the full responsibility to execute and file official filing documents prepared and issued by this office no later than the legal filing deadline established by law. In Person - Candidate filing takes place in our Election Information Section located on the 2 nd Floor, Room 2013, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. We are located at Imperial Highway, Norwalk. By an authorized agent - You may authorize an agent to pickup and deliver your signed CRQ and Nomination documents.
