DONOR INFORMATION The papers were donated to the University of Missouri by Clyde Wilson on 3 June 1974 (Accession No. 3946). BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH H. Clyde Wilson was born on May 6, 1926 in Proctor, Texas. In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended officer candidate school. After World War II, he enrolled in Baylor University and then attended Texas A&M, where he graduated in 1949 with a degree in mathematics. He received a master s degree in anthropology from the University of Texas. As a graduate student at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Wilson met a fellow graduate student, Betty Ann Karsian, and they married in Wilson completed his formal education at the University of California at Los Angeles, where he earned his Ph.D. in While completing his education, Wilson worked for the Texas Highway Department, was an economic planner with the Jicarilla Apache Tribe in New Mexico, was involved in early testing of the Salk polio vaccine, and worked as an attendant in a psychiatric hospital. In 1961, Wilson came to the University of Missouri. He was active in university affairs, serving as president of the local chapter of the American Association of University Professors, a member of the faculty policy committee and the College of Arts and Science policy committee. In addition to his work as a member of the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Association for the Advancement for Colored People, he was active in the American Anthropology Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Sigma Xi. He served three years as chairman of the anthropology department. Before campaigning for Congress in 1970, Wilson served as a delegate to the 1968 Boone County Democratic Convention, helped organize a neighborhood Democratic club, and was a member of the New Democratic Coalition.
