If you would like more information, please contact us at INTRODUCTION The papers of the Greater Kansas City Central Labor Council of the AFL-CIO contain the minutes of the Central Labor Council, miscellaneous copies of letters, resolutions, and notices. DONOR INFORMATION The Central Labor Council Papers were donated to the University of Missouri by the council on 22 September 1966 (Accession No. 3679). ORGANIZATIONAL SKETCH The Kansas City Central Labor Council was organized in 1892 in an effort to unionize wage earners in all jobs. The declaration of purposes in the constitution and bylaws, revised in 1951, included: the unionization of all "toilers" regardless of sex, color, nationality or creed; the uniting of different unions "so that their rights and welfare may become a common issue and that they may extend to each other moral and material support at all times; securing the support of the members of the various organizations for the union label; examining and discussing all laws, national, state and municipal, affecting the workers; and supporting "for legislative positions men who will pledge themselves to the enactment of laws preserving the rights of the workers". SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE The papers are primarily the minutes of the council's semi-monthly meetings, dating from 1946 to Within the minutes are various enclosures, including a copy of the constitution and by-laws, revised in 1951, and handouts given to shoppers to boycott certain stores or products.
