Charles Chic Brandt Fall Luncheon Agenda: Save the Date October 4 It's hard to believe that another year has passed, and that the first day of school is already here! ACREA's Fall meeting/ luncheon will again be held at Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point, on October 4, Reminder that doors open at 10:30 with crudités being served. The business meeting will begin at 11:00 with lunch following. Guest speakers, Marie Blistan, NJEA Vice President, will talk on topics of vital importance to members and Beth Schroeder- Buonsante, NJEA Gov't Relations, will discuss the ongoing pension crisis and NJEA PAC endorsements for November New retirees are encouraged to attend. This is a way to connect with old friends and become familiar with our association. Friendly Reminder: please return meeting / luncheon reservation forms in a timely manner. Deadline is Monday, September 26. This will enable us to give the restaurant an accurate attendance / meal count.
2 Membership Report Enrollment Numbers Joanne Peek, Membership Chair Our ACREA membership total is We have over 150 plus members from last year at this time. Thank you for renewing your membership. Please help us grow our association by asking former colleagues and the newly retired to join us. A strong membership creates a loud voice in the upcoming elections. This is a good time to check and update your membership information if there have been changes. Notify both NJEA and ACREA. If you are not currently signed up for , please contact ACREA at atlanticrea2@gmail.com to be added to our list. You can continue to receive the paper newsletter while also receiving timely information. ~~Reminder~~ Annual dues for were due August 1. If you need a renewal form, please call New retirees are billed as soon as NJEA is officially informed of retirement. New Account for ACREA: Twitter ACREA information is growing electronically. We are now on Twitter. Twitter is an information network where you can read and send short messages to people you follow or who follow you. To subscribe go to twitter.com to set up a free account. Once signed up, and select the follow button. Now you can read all the latest tweets or tweet your own messages. If you have any questions about membership or communication, please contact Joanne Peek at No Constitutional Amendment on Ballot N. Fisher & K. Ziegenfus, Government Relations The Senate failed to vote on our pension resolution by the August 8 th deadline. This was due to Senate President Sweeney s failure to post the bill despite numerous, persuasive efforts of NJEA and other public employee unions. That means that there will be NO question on pensions on the November 2016 ballot. Since Senator Sweeney broke his promise to move the resolution that would have put the pension question before the voters, NJEA believes that our next focus should be on the important gubernatorial and legislative elections coming up in NJEA PAC took the unprecedented step of starting the process to screen candidates in order to make primary endorsements in the upcoming races for governor, state Senate and Assembly. At this time NJEA PAC has made the following endorsements for 2016: Presidential Nominee: Hillary Clinton (D) US Congress Assemblyman District 2 Frank Lobiondo (R) Endorsements from Atlantic County Council of Education Associations: Freeholder at Large Brenda Brathwaite (D) Atlantic County Freeholder District 4 Steve Stokes (D) We remember and pray for our friends and colleagues: Hilde Dimond Dorothy Ebneth Edythe Green Barbara Guthrie Thomas Martin Shula Schreiber Theodore Serewitch
