1 Volume I Issue 1 November 2013 NAP Biennial Convention For those of you who were lucky enough to attend the NAP Biennial Convention in Portland, Oregon, what an interesting time. Our hotel was actually in two different buildings. We were downtown surrounded by a variety of restaurants large and small, pricey or reasonable. There was a large amphitheatre a block away at Pioneer Square which was always busy with the different bands, free products and a fun place to hangout and watch the world go by. Well parliamentarians are not ones to sit very long. The different modes of transportation could all be reached with a short walk. The Zoo, beautiful gardens, museums and the outdoor arts and crafts festival tents full of interesting items and more. Most fun was the 24 hour, never ending bakery Voodoo Bakery that had appeared on national television, makers of an eclectic mix of giant donuts and pastries, The Willmet River was only a few blocks away with a long park. A good place to help those calories go away as you walk along the river walk. Our NAP trip to Portland was highlighted by the election of a new board, vigorous debate and voting on bylaws as well as teaching or taking any number of classes. Between those events, there was time to reacquaint with old friends and making many more new ones. Elected to the board were: Ann Guiberson, President, Mary L. Randolph, Vice President, Ann L. Rempel, Secretary, Evan A. Lemoine, Treasurer, Steve Glanstein, Director-at- Large, James Jones, Director-at- Large, James H. Stewart, Director-at- Large, District Director Representatives, Advisors: Parliamentarian Dr. Leonard Young and Executive Director, Mike Chamberlain. This was the first time for the membership meet our new Executive Director and the buzz was that he is doing a great job. Saturday, September 7, 2013 was Youth Day at the NAP Convention. The NAP Youth Committee invited middle school, high school and college students interested in parliamentary procedure to a special day. They attended the morning business session of the NAP Convention, met other students at the Youth Day Luncheon, and participated in workshops. NAP now has a Youth Parliamentary Packet which is available at the NAP Online Store. If you work with kids this packet is for you. You can read the contents of the inside front cover of the National Parliamentarian, Volume 74 No. 3 Third Quarter 2013, with the picture of the Indiana State Association of P a r l i a m e n t a r i a n s Anniversary. 7 0 t h Nancy Dauster, PRP District 3 Director The board voted to have a drawing for $100 bookstore credit for those regular members paying their dues by December 15.
