Bylaws changes to be discussed in upcoming year Valary Schulz Bylaws changes to carry into next year. Rick Ericksen. Would you like to make a comment? Rick Erickson I wish to propose fundamental bylaws changes that will align our DPA guidelines and requirements with certifications and licenses issued by states - attempt so that we will reciprocity with states increase our membership and provide members a way to receive state licensure. 5 Page 5 of 11 Valary: In closing my report, I have enjoyed my year as President-Elect. Charles will be hard to replace. Last, I look forward to working with all of you next year. <End 9:29 AM> 7. Treasurers Report 2013 Third Quarter Treasurer s Report (Debra Osborne) < 9:30 9:49 AM> General Comment by Debra Osborne: January 2013 Playmakers - $36,000 profit Very impressive for the first year. We need more ideas like this Third Quarter 2013 DPA Financial Analysis of the nine months ending 3\31\2013 Income - $142,853 or 16% over budgeted income Under on dues - $5980 loss over last year, members have passed away or not renewed. Expenses -$82547 or 14% over budgeted income. Salaries and benefits were misallocated to the divisions during the budget process. - See report Q: Bill Haskett - Where is the cost of the reception? Debra - This is the mess. Bill Haskett Who approves this? Valary Schulz Payment made to AAPG? All of the accounting is done by headquarters. Charles Playmakers AAPG Education Dept. had a $10,000 management fee. AAPG Education Dept. has the structure to do these meetings. Debra As of now, we have a gain of $60,306 for this period. Playmakers will help fund our portion of the GEO-DC office this year. Investment Portfolio Summary End of year $556, as compared to July 1, 2012 started at $508, (We are tied to AAPG s investments and interest rates.) Debra We need to make some changes on dues. Question Mark Gallagher: Dues increase? Debra Are (directed to Mark) you recommending a dues number? Mark No. Didn t we do a dues increase last year. We might lose members. Question Mark Did this cause our membership loss? Norma Members did not renew because they did not renew their AAPG membership. Charles Sponsorship for events is important. High power sponsorship will make this work. Question Heberson Where does $60,000 go? Debra Geo DC. Question Heberson Is this the best place for it to go? Debra This is our biggest concern, because we do not have the3 income coming in to cover this in past years. Paul We have a commitment to do this. Norma The DPA can change it at any time. Paul Britt DPA got involved without GEO DC AAPG pays majority of Geo DC office expenses. Our investment keeps us involved in the office. It keeps science engaged in the discussion. DPA has a direct say in how the office is managed. Line item on dues: Does not go to DPA or expenses of Geo DC office but to a fund for special projects. Many people are confused by this. Charles has a good idea that sponsorship events funding the GE-DC office but it has to be pushed that way. I reiterate (as I have in the past) that there should be a special line item on the dues to help pay for the GEO DC office expenses. Heberson GEO DC-Budget is a critical deal. Viability of Geo DC office is critical budget item. Is Geo DC budget critical to the EC? Rick Erickson $6,100 CQ Roll Call Service tracks 100,000 legislative bills per year. I would like to propose that CQ Roll Call Service be offered to the entire organization. Haskett I do not believe the Geo DC that would benefit all members.

8. Past President s Report 2013 (Marty Hewitt) < 9:50 9:55AM> Marty: The Past President has two main responsibilities: Nominations for officers and awardees. Item 1: Nominees for officer elections this is the hard job. Committee: Marty, Hewitt, Charles Sternbach and Dan Tearpock President Elect Rick Fritz was elected Vice President Mark Gallagher was elected Secretary Terry O Hare Special thanks to those who were not selected: Jim Tucker, Joel Albert and John Hogg: their names will on the short list for next year s candidates for Charles. Item 2: Awards this is the fun job. 9 awards tonight Page 6 of 11 YP s (Young Professionals) Discussion before Dan Billman leaves. YPs Ad hoc Committee Chairman Dan Billman there is no definition of an YP. AAPG YP for 8 years. This coincidentally is when you are eligible for DPA membership, if we can bridge this gap between YPs and DPA, we can solve our DPA membership loss. This is easy to say but harder to accomplish. <Break 9:55 AM to 10:15 AM> 9. Council Reports - <9:50AM to 10:44 AM> Eastern Section Report Pat Imbrogno and Bob Trevail Our concern is membership especially with Young Professionals. How do we get everyone trained and enthusiastic for the DPA and our science? Several Short Courses are being offered at ACE this year: 1. Quality Control for Subsurface Maps (QLT's) Dan Tearpock or Joe Brewton, Subsurface Consultants & Associates, LLC, 2. The Three Ps of Geosteering: Principals, Practice and Pitfalls Josh Dill, Director of Geosteering, Empirica Raymond L. Woodward, President, BHL Consulting, Inc. and BHL Boresight Inc. Mark Gallagher, Geologist, Encana 3. Black Belt of Ethics (Luncheon) Bob Shoup, Clastic Reservoir Systems Midcontinent Joel Alberts and Dave Tschopp (Dave is a new granddad.) January Townhall in Tulsa (Summit Club), Eddie Allison was the speaker, topic: Geo DC office activity, smaller crowd than expected but there were new candidates for DPA membership identified. We will try to do one in Oklahoma City in the near future. Dave and talk every other month for new members. We will educate our replacement counselors so that they get started. Gulf Coast Greg Heberman no report. Paul: there are three other gulf coast reports that were sent to you. Pacific Section no counselor present ( pleased see counselor report) Rocky Mountain Section (RMS) - Donna Anderson 2013 RMS Section Meeting - Sept in Salt Lake City, UT. DPA Luncheon is Sept 23 Speaker Rick Allis, Director and State Geologist UGS. Our Transforming Energy Sector 2014 RMS Section Meeting Denver, CO 2015 Ace will be in Denver and there will be no section meeting. RMS 348 DPA members a decline of 14 over the past year. RMS Counselors are working to add new members (DPA Blast). Thank you, Norma for your help. RMS is looking for short course opportunities for our section meetings. In the RMAG DPA certification is not a selling point. If certified if it is with the state of Wyoming. Donna: What are my selling points? Question Charles: I think, this is a great choice. Getting Peter Buckman on board is great. Is Peter Buckman a DPA member? Donna: I don t know.

Page 7 of 11 Pause : Please look at the DPA web page for video content to encourage membership. We need to be more aggressive with what we do. Donna: DPA Blast w/links and videos Charles: AAPG has a new marketing rep. Is she here? Norma: She is here. Charles: Is there an opportunity for DPA to meet with her? We should consider investing a small portion of our funds in promoting and marketing the DPA. Southwest Section: No report International Regions: General question: Bill Haskett Section are higher category, please see the agenda. Are all of the regions equal to one section? Please address in the next agenda. Africa Region Bayo Akinpelu We the DPA members in the Africa Region are making good progress in making AAPG members aware of the DPA. NAPE We are planning to have technical presentations at the NAPE 2013 International Conference. Young Professionals involvement is one of the Africa Regions top concerns Long Term Mentoring, Meet and Greet Functions, IBA Industry Mentor Group and the Barrel Odyssey. Latin America Region - Feijo Flavio AAPG membership is increasing in the region 1402 to 1484 (+82) DPA has increased from 11 to 15 (4 applicants) 4/15(100) = 24% Increase AAPG ICE September 8 11, 2013 Cartagena Columbia: Please plan to attend. Discovery Thinking Forum at ICE. Canada Region Report (Bill Haskett) Paul Pause My apologies on the agenda. Bill Haskett The Canada Region is quite active and we need to plan more DPA events. I suggest we run a Canada Region Playmakers Forum. Playmakers would go very well and this would help the DPA. DPA International Regions international reciprocity would be huge selling point. DPA is the easiest to get in. Fellow of the Geological Society is a pain. This would be a viable way to help out the International Groups. (See Bill s Bio in the correlation.) I joined because Marty and John Hogg encouraged me. There is huge potential in Canada for this. Paul Pause : This is a good idea. Charles: Rob Spritzer will speak at the Horn River Shale Play at Discovery Thinking Forum. Any thoughts on where and when Playmakers Canada could occur? Bill Haskett: I think it would have to be Calgary. It will take a little bit of planning. 10. Committee Reports <10:45AM to 1:30PM with a 1:43 minute lunch break> Board of Certification Rick L. Ericksen, Chairman Thank you to the new board: Rick Ericksen, Mike Party, Debra Rutan, Stephen Sonnenberg and Dan Tearpock. The system is working perfectly. Oct 2012 to April 2013 the board has approved 32 applications for certification: 29 geologists and 3 geophysicists. Dan Tearpock has resigned from Board of Certification. We will name a replacement soon, that will be for a three year term. Bylaws Committee Paul Pause : We have covered this. Conventions Paul Britt <10:50 AM> Valary: We covered this in a previous report. Education, Bob Shoup Defer to later. Charles: We have discussed a number of Bob s innovative ideas such as the Unconventional Reserves Forum, which will take place this fall.

Page 8 of 11 Governmental Affairs (report was handed out at this meeting) Specialist Members are available for special issues. Vice Chair Position not filled should be filled by the mid-year DPA meeting. Statements are moving forward: - Final Committee Review: OCS Resources - Preservation of Geological and Geophysical Data - Research and Development Needs - Tax Reform Committee Second Review: Energy Policy and Natural Gas Supply Committee First Review: Climate Change (Bob Shoup and Lee Gerhard) Rick Ericksen CQ Roll Call Service Rick would like to see some take this over. It is appropriate to be under Government Affairs Committee. However, I feel it should be under AAPG. With your permission, I will discuss with David Curtis, AAPG Executive Director and then go to the Executive Committee. Question - Valary Schulz: Do you have any sense how much this is used? Answer Rick Ericksen: Five to eight members per week viewed this data. I think, there would be more activity, and if it is was on the AAPG website and not just for DPA members. It will need to be advertised. Britt: I think the EC needs to take this on. Are there any objections from the council, if Rick pursued this? (No response.) Therefore, Rick has permission to discuss this with David Curtis. Geo DC Report Eddie Allison Background: I started in September. Office had been empty for 14 months. Geo DC Charter: to share information on legislation with members and AAPG leadership, to bring science to Capitol Hill on geology and energy issues or answer calls for congressional aides, agencies or other governments and to facilitate interaction between members and AAPG members Congressional Visit Days. 1. Geo-Congressional Visit Days 2. Energy Policy Forum Tuesday at the Convention demand side of natural gas. 3. Unconventional Resources Committee Meetings in Denver, Salt Lake City and New Orleans at the Section Meetings. 4. Make the office available to international groups and members. Eddie: I am available to answer questions from international members, for example, US exporting Oil, and US tax law. 5. I will be happy to visit local DPA sections, local societies or sections to discuss topics in a Town hall format. Question: Haskett Let your experts know who the audience is. Do we have speakers? Eddie David Curtis started a Speaker s Bureau. Britt We would think you could handle through the blog and any members can contact the office with questions. Eddie Come tomorrow to the forum or see me at the DPA luncheon to discuss these issues. Britt- We must be very careful, who we choose to interact with because, we want to be seen as a scientific organization and not a trade group. For example at the DPA Mid-Year Meeting, it was suggested, we will not interact with TIPRO because, and they are lobbyist. The GEO DC office is not there to lobby on a topic but to provide scientific data to legislators. We are received that way (science not trade) by congressional delegations. Paul Britt: We have been joined by Bob Trevail DPA Vice Chair for ACE Perhaps, he can give us an update on the convention. Bob Trevail: Three short courses: 3 DPA short courses DPA Luncheon Energy Forum Discovery Thinking Forum Monday afternoon 2014 Convention Houston DPA Vice Chair - Chandler Wilhelm Program will have to be finalized by December Potential DPA short courses

Page 9 of 11 Luncheon speaker Who should we invite: Government Policy or Oil finder being discussed with committee? I welcome your ideas. Comments: Haskett Oil finder that bridges the technical spectrum. Fritz: More people come to Oil finder. Charles: Marlin Downey - business and ethics. The business of finding oil in an ethical way. Marty Hewitt: Go back to Harold Hamm. Membership Rick Fritz 1. Mass Mailings Charles is doing this. 2. Recruit the Leadership program: counselor expand program to the counselors. 3. Young Professionals This is the Ice Berg headed our way. 4. Branding DPA -We need to expand Playmakers Forum, etc. -Why I joined DPA videos and testimony? Lunch Break <11:22 AM to 1:05 PM> Publications Chandler Wilhelm has already covered his report. Reserves Resources John Coleman is not here State Registration and Licensing Dave Rensick Louisiana is now on the Governor s desk to set the fee schedule. It will be around $200. Grandfathering period will end at the end of this year (look for this between August and December of 2013.) We will send an out how to do this? Texas Governor tried to kill TBDG but it survived. New York is revising licensing there is no provision for petroleum geologist. Watching: Alaska may be looking at something and Missouri is making effort to end it s registration. Question: Joel Alberts - Will LA have reciprocity w/other states? Answer: Dave My guess is yes. You can go in for a 90 day period and practice and then get out. Question: Wilhelm DO you have to be a resident? Answer: Dave No, but Louisiana has nothing set up even to accept application. Website Committee Charles Sternbach for Linda Sternbach Charles Many exciting things to see on the Web site. Search and Discover tab is the gateway to discovery thinking forum. Look at the videos from Playmaker Forum, especially Dan Tearpock s Ten Habits of Highly Successful Oil Finders. Down load the history books DPA Heritage Volume and DPA History. How to join DPA step by step four things you need to do. Search and Discovery webpage is another resource. I will challenge DPA to do dynamic things on the webpage especially for YP s. There is social media we are not using. Other Business <1:30 PM to 2:20PM> Charles: Norma gives us an update on tonight s dinner and 15 to 20 minutes of brainstorming on what things DPA needs to do to attract new members. Norma: Monterrey Bay Fish Grotto at the top of Mt Washington. Full House 80 people Bus will leave at Westin Hotel and will make several trips 6:30 6:45 PM. 9:30 PM Start running people back to the hotel Open bar & several Dinner Choices

Page 10 of 11 Brainstorming Continuing Education: Charles Bob Shoup our continuing education chair has an invitation for us. Reserves Forum this fall around Sept 10, collaborative effort between AAPG, SPE, JCORET Community Reserves Committee Chair John Coleman is very excited about this. Continuing Education is moving forward on several fronts. Chandler Wilhelm: Houston ACE 2014 has potential to draw large numbers: Ten Habits of Successful Oil finders, Geosteering, etc. Brainstorm Membership (DPA) Valary Schulz Board Members and Counselors need to be proactive in inviting new members. Best Practices in Recruiting (Charles) Rick s leadership initiative has been very exciting. Haskett Easier to recruit in year, retention for year two can be difficult. Chandler Wilhelm in the Correlator - We have been running profiles. Charles: Explorer Column: Explore why I joined DPA? Norma: Pay for space to advertise in the Explorer. Question: Charles: If we ran an ad every quarter, what would it cost? Answer: Norma - $500 to $1000 Heberson I agree with a column for the Correlator Why I joined the AAPG? We need to target key executives w/large companies who are DPA members. I also think the NOCs are important. Schulz - We need an executive to say, I look for DPA certification, when I hire. P. Britt Target marketing is important. Also for years it has been the section lunch and section meetings, where we advertised. Pat Imbrogno Are we allowed to access AAPG membership? We need to look more long term. Charles Yes, we have access. It is dynamic. Norma I do not think blast s are effective. AAPG sends out far too many s. We need to do it at a smaller scale. Personal contact is more effective. Charles We do not have a DPA corporate advisory board. Will we need a new membership plan? Charles - Long Range Planning Committee Rick Fritz Chair, Mark Gallagher Vice Chair Tactical plan near term Strategic plan long term vision Mark- Be persistent to keep asking fellow geologist. Someone will say, yes. Offer to teach ethics courses and show your DPA Certification on business cards and PowerPoint presentations. Use the title. Encourage activities at your local level we need a less expensive town hall meeting. Valary: We need local DPA meetings, so that DPA members may interact and network. Charles Upcoming Town hall YPs in Denver -Bob Shoup will give a talk to YPs in Houston Charles- Jim Panache: What are your thoughts? You are our YP advisor. Panache I don t think my YPs know about DPA Charles Are there YPs in Pittsburgh area? Panache Yes Charles Would they be receptive to Dan Billman talking to a YP group? Panache Yes, but mass (blast) s are not effective. Norma Could we tag on to local society luncheon meetings? Charles Could the members or counselors talk about DPA at local meetings? Norma Does Oklahoma City have something like this? Joel Monthly lunch and talk $25. DPA could pick up dessert and coffee Oil finder talk. Britt We have speakers, we have local speakers. Put together a list of speakers - 3 or 5 speakers.

Page 11 of 11 Valary and Terry need to do this (per Rick) 5 minutes to talk about DPA. Unknown Do we have a canned program? Pause Yes, Charles has that on the webpage. Heberson Could we do a cycle thing on the screen? It would be a great ad. Charles Yes we do and we use it. Pat Imbrogno Certification is a Badge of Credibility. Paul Pause laid off, West Texas Geological Society Bulletin Board found some consulting. My card was the only one that said: Certified Petroleum Geologist. Valary We need products; we need to show\ demonstrate value for our DPA membership. Dave Rensick- Rick recruited me, when I was a candidate for AAPG President Elect. He said, why are you not a member. Shame and guilt goes a long way. Britt DPA is a resume builder. Summary of brainstorming 1. Membership - develop a slide pack to use locally Focus young professionals in Denver, Houston, Brazil, Pittsburgh, and Africa 2. Use the Explorer - ads Supply 3. Budget for marketing - Domestic ($4000) 4. More international venues 5. Explore social networking tools to advertise DPA 6. Industry Advisory Board visit key executives in companies 7. Can we recruit college professors? These are the folks that produce and influence the next generation of geologist. 8. Sponsor events for example, the Pacific Section DPA Breakfast 9. Put CPG on your business cards 10. mid-year meeting in Dallas Be prepared to speak! Meeting Adjourned <2:20 PM> Executive session to follow Executive Session No Minutes
