Specifically, it has jurisdiction over adulteration of seeds, insect pests and the protection of birds and animals in forest reserves; forestry in general and forest reserves other than those created from the public domain; entomology and plant quarantine; and plant industry, soils and agricultural engineering. It also oversees production, marketing and price stabilization for agricultural products and commodities (not including distribution outside of the country); commodity exchanges; crop insurance and soil conservation; and extension of farm credit and farm security. The panel s jurisdiction also includes the inspection of livestock, poultry, meat products and seafood; the animal industry and diseases of animals; the dairy industry; and agricultural and industrial chemistry. Also under the committee s jurisdiction are agricultural colleges and experiment stations, agricultural education-extension services and agricultural economics and research; human nutrition and home economics; rural electrification and rural development; and water conservation related to activities of the Agriculture Department.
